Sharks Acquire Talent and Veteran Leadership

Created by: pavelski_tip_in
Team: 2024-25 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: May 2, 2024
Published: May 2, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
(1) Assume Will Smith and Quentin Musty do not play in the NHL to begin the year.

(2) Sharks need help at center because Couture may never return. Sharks overpay for some center depth.

(3) Sharks need defensemen who can actually clear their own zone.

(4) Sharks had too many useless wingers last season. Bring in guys with actual size and speed. The players traded for have deals that expire in the near term, but the Sharks need some veteran presence to help Celebrini.

(5) Zadina and Addison not brought back. Graf plays the majority of the year in the AHL.

(6) Of all these moves, I really just want the Sharks to sign Chatfield.

Veteran defenseman for Vancouver, but honestly could be dropped from the deal.

  2. 2025 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Draft pick compensation might be necessary for Islanders to get out of the contract, but the 3rd is just an approximation. Burroughs can be dropped, but I added in case Islanders need a depth RHD.

The first problem I see is the 2 guys you are bringing in via trade have NTC's. Players get those to avoid ending up with teams like SJ.
I am fairly certain that the thing Will Smith is waiting for before making a decision whether or not to turn pro this season is the draft lotto. If SJ lands Celibrini, I think Smith joins this year (24-25).
I think you are right about Addison, but Zadina probably gets a QO to see if he at least blossoms into something that will gain a TDL asset.
The type of D you are looking at and the level of overpay is probably spot on. We could maybe push even harder and shoot for a Montour.
I'm not a fan of Wennberg. I'd look elsewhere.

Its comical how Canucks fans have to endure another team's fans telling them they will need to add to move a player. Boeser was apparently finished the season before last and teams fans wanted as high as a second to take him. This year he scores 40 goals. The next was Garland. Some wanted as high as a first to take on his contract. Garland scored 18 this year and helped drive one of the best 3rd lines the NHL (this year). Myers was another. And now we have arrived at Mikyhev who is 1 year into his Knee surgery recovery. Likely, Canucks will not move him and expect him to hit his full form for his last year of his contract next season. Give yourselves a break and us too.
