Would Soderblom add size? yes, absolutely... Would he add skill? no, absolutely not.

There's nothing in his game that he has shown to be nothing more than a 4th line fringe NHLer. Trading Barron, who still has top 4 potential, for Soderblom is a waste of an asset. At most I'd throw is a mid rd draft pick, or a Ylonen, or a Kidney. That's it.

he is almost 6'9.... no one at 6'9 make it before 24-25. It takes time, but he has the skills, barron showed more but it doesn't invalidate how good he can be on the bottom 6

Nonsense. You clearly haven't seen him play then. He is the exact opposite of what you describe. He's massive, but plays like a 5'10" guy with skill. Söderblom's biggest flaw is that he doesn't use his size as an advantage enough.

To say he's not skilled is laughable. His stickhandling is absurd.

... It's his skating that sucks.

Then DET should keep him.

I looked up every possible video of Soderblom last year, thinking he could be a good target for MTL. (and that's when he was probably valued at his highest, due to his hot start last year). The guy has got hands, and is obviously strong along the boards and in front of the net due to his sheer size. But his major issues (and looks like they haven't improved in the slightest this past season) were his skating and awareness. The guy is useless in transition. has no pace to his game, terrible edges, and easily gets lost in his own zone.

He could have the hands of a hockey god, and it would be pointless if he can't keep up at an NHL pace. The term "skill" doesn't just encompass having good handles, it's all-encompassing trait (stick handling, shooting, skating both speed and edge-work, awareness, playmaking, etc.) So no, Soderblom imo isn't a skilled forward. He's a fringe NHLer.

I'd be happy to be proven otherwise. But trading someone like Barron just makes his acquisition too risky, and definitely not necessary.

I remember somes Wings fans (and a lot of Habs hatters) at their 1st home game of the 2022-23 season, when they beat the Habs 2-0 and that Soderblom scored his 1st NHL goal......

I mean, I remember that Montreal was horrible in that game..

We have a resident "Wings fan" (I'm still very skeptical of that) here that claims Raymond sucks and wants to sign Matty Beniers to a 7 x $14M contract.

... Point being when people say **** that's THAT bat**** insane, it's probably not something you need to bring up later and say, "I remember when..."

I was actually at that game lol

I remember telling my wife I hoped he eventually makes the team full time. She seemed confused due to how good he looked. I told her he is still a long shot but if he hits that’s a huge win. Jury is still out but it’s a no risk / high reward keeping him around.

It’s fantastic. It feels like your still downtown in Detroit even when your in the arena. Part of me hates it because the Joe was something special, but at the same time LCA makes it look like it was a minor league barn.

Yeah I'd like to see that as well! But a Habs fan calling out someone for overvaluing a player is priceless!!!! I actually had to get up and walk that off.

Honestly I think Detroit just keeps Soderblom. If he can pull it together in his mid twenties we will be happy. Going to take our time with him. Barron is alright but I think we can find better options. He isn't the player we need right now. We need a veteran shut down style on the right side, that's why we signed Justin Holl but he hasn't worked out.

You have 3 Shutdown in Seider, chiarot and Edvin, and losing Ghost as your only puck carrier, no ? Kinda need a good puck mover now, and Barron is that

Edvinsson is still young, he needs a good partner. Chiarot was decent but he's not the best answer. We need someone to pair with Edvinsson and take pressure off of Seider. Top 4 RHD who is strong defensively would be ideal. Roy, Pesce and Tanev are ideal options. Barron is a project and right now we have a bunch of other young players going to be pushing the roster. I think it's better to try and insulate them.

Haven't been since the first year it opened, but I've been to Columbus, Pittsburgh, Philly, and Washington in the last year, and Chicago years ago, and I'd say LCA is the nicest of those six.

I will say I really liked PPG Paints. Big fan of the way parts of the concourse are essentially opened into the arena so you can grab food, sit and eat in the concourse and still look out onto the ice. It's weird how it's built on a hill though, so you walk right in and essentially go upstairs immediately.
