    Nelson is obviously good,
but that’s just too much for just one year of him
And he’s too old for us to extend to the deal he would want

Nelson just isn’t a good target for the Sabres
Little Jerry is wrong about him

Why would Buffalo do that? That's way too much for a 33 year old with 1 year on his contract

If that is all you are willing to pay to move Palmieri, find another team. In CHI's eyes, he is either a pure $5M cap dump or he isn't, there is no in between.

A first and 2 2nds and more (aka more than you paid for him with 1 year of term vs the 2.3 years you acquired...and his value has not gone up)

Palmieri is not a cap dump. At the deadline, Arizona got a 6th for Zucker who is 1) having a bad season (11 goals to Palmieri's 22) and 2) more expensive than Palms. I don't think they'll get much for Palms, but a one year rental on a cheap contract should be easily movable. I'd look at Toffoli as a comp - one year of him at $4.25MM was worth a 3rd and a good young roster player (Sharangovich). Palms is not going to be coming off as good a season as Toffoli was, so he won't return a package that good, but a 3rd or a 4th without the player seems reasonable.

I agree with the Hawks fans who don't want to pay for him though; he doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team. He'd only make sense for a playoff team that was looking for some secondary scoring with no long-term commitment required.

I'll take it a step further. Why trade Palmieri at all? He's been fantastic under Roy. Best forward not named Barzal or Horvat. There are guys in the top-9F group who should be moved on from. Palms is not one of them

Completely agree. Palms fits Roy system perfectly and he's one of the guys who brings energy every night. If we make drastic moves this offseason, which we should, we should keep Roy vision in mind.

He's the only forward not named Barzal, Horvat or Nelson that has a significant cap hit and and won't cost assets to move out. That's the only reason to move him - they can create cap space and get an asset back rather than spending assets to do so.

But you're taking a known net positive out of the lineup. Unless that extra $5m is somehow bringing in Guentzel as a UFA to replace Palms, I would rather keep him. Pageau might not return a lot but I don't think he's a pure cap dump. I feel like we can move on from him rather easily if we want to clear space. Lee will be the burden and I prefer to not buy him out unless it's absolutely necessary. I hate dead cap like that on the books

Or look at Palms as a sell high asset. He's 32 and having his best season since 2019-20, no guarantee that continues next year. Get out from under that $5MM and use it on a guy who's on the right side of 30.

sens accept. I would prefer a deal centred around one high quality asset but this is a very good package
