Potential RHD option

Created by: Lactic_Flaccid
Team: 2024-25 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 18, 2024
Published: Mar. 18, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
No movement clauses aside (lets assume they are either waived or not applicable) would the Ducks or Blues be interested in a package around this? This assumes the Ducks can't sign Pesce, Roy, Demelo, etc...

Add a top 6 winger, and this line up is not too bad.

Thoughts?

Some version of Faulk for LaCombe seems reasonable -- what do Hayes and Strome have to do with this?

Vatrano and Killorn are our two second-line wings until Cutter Gauthier is ready . . . unless we win the you-know-who sweepstakes. (Don't want to jinx us.)

Why is Gauthier getting $9.8M for 2 years before playing a game?

Mostly just looking long term, Hayes contract expires before the year the Ducks have like $20 million needing to go to RFAs, just clears out space to help with being able to sign them all and stay under the cap. I have an unposted version of this (its kind of wonky) where I tried to guess all the RFA deals and somehow they don't fit under the cap so having Strome's $5 Mil off the books clears some space to help make that happen.

An interesting concept, but I feel like the Blues would not have much interest in Strome.

I wouldn't doubt that, I'm not sure anyone really would. More just trying to offload him honestly, but I think the Ducks would need to get rid of a contract that is signed through 26-27 in order to bring in Faulk as most of the Ducks RFAs are due big raises that year. Blues have no use for Gibson, and I wouldn't be ready to get rid of Killorn just yet personally, so Strome is kind of the only big contract left that is in discussion.

Yeah, I doubt they'd want any 30+ year olds with three or more years left at already loaded positions. We'd need to find a 3rd party desperate to land scoring cheap or something.

Ducks can continue to build through the draft to find a RD that fits their window, not sure what acquiring Faulk accomplishes, they won't be relevant until after his contract and he's already in his 30s.

Would imagine they want to turn the corner eventually. Pesce may be another option if he’d be willing to sign there. I’m not sure Faulk would waive for Anaheim, would be a tough sell for a guy like him, but who knows

Need a veteran defensive D to guide the rookies development in the league and cover for some of their mistakes so that they can learn what they can and can't get away with, not to mention taking some of the load off our goalies.

I'm going to have to cut back across the grain though OP, I think LaCombe is developing as a fine 2nd pair 2 way D, Zellweger on the other hand needs some major points ironed out in his defensive game. I'd rather keep LaCombe and send Zell to the AHL for a couple of seasons.

I dont think Zell sees San Diego again unless he really sh*ts the bed over a long stretch next year, but who knows
