I concur with exo... He's really the only high-end RHD in our system, so we'll want to see how he works out.
Gotta say, though, I recently saw him in a few college games in the latter part of the season, and he surprised me. I kept hearing that he was "raw;" "years away;" "needs to learn his position;" etc, etc, etc... Yet what I saw was a big, fast, composed, and confident D - IN HIS OWN END. He made mostly good decisions, even when stressed or pressed by multiple attackers in space or on the boards.
At the offensive end is when he seemed not to know what to do as much - especially when carrying in the puck. He seems to WANT to carry the pick in, but isn't sure how that works - yet.
So, my guess is that you'll have him in Gopherland - for at least another year. When he turns pro, too, he'll likely then also benefit from a year or two in the AHL before coming into the big league.
As a low 1st round pick, the Hawks gambled a bit on his raw potential. They knew he was going to take time to grow his game. Yet it increasingly seems as though the gamble may be VERY worth the risk in the long run.
Enjoy watching him with the Gophers! Cheers
