Why would either team do this?

TOR won't retain that for two years when they're trying to win a cup.

Colorado probably can't afford to send Johansen away when Landeskog is still on LTIR, Lehkonen is on LTIR and now Nichushkin is in NHLPA player program.

    They need forwards.

If the Hawks have an extra retention spot remaining at the TDL then sure why not.

Ryjo is signed through next season. So if the Hawks do this, that leaves them only one retention slot for next season. I don't think they do it.

    I figured a 4th for this year and a 3rd + 4th for next year.

If Tor wants to move on from Tavares, ship him over. When your enemy is making mistakes, don't interrupt him.

Better to retain 5.5MM than have 11MM on the books if they don't want the guy.

Tavares would be a perfect center for that line.

It also shows Guentzel and Crosby that the team is going for it.

Most Col fans I see or talk to (and some media outlets) want him gone. They believe he is replaceable at the TDL and internally and for 4MM in cap space, they would toss him.

The Leafs are still a team very much in full win now mode, I don't think burying 5.5M for this year and next is attractive to a team that's already constrained by just a few contracts. Sure they could then go out and trade for someone with the $5.5M free, but I just don't see it and knowing them they'd probably want a stiff return to retain that much.

I also don't think the org is the one that doesn't want him, it's just the fans and that trash media.

Again, don't think colorado wants to give away more forwards right now with their list of injuries, regardless of whether they add or not.

While that might be fair value, I doubt the Hawks would leave themselves with just one retention slot for the '25 TDL for a couple of mid round picks.

Sure. But IF Col and Tor wanted out of these contracts, I would think the Pens would be interested.

    Hey,

We've got an ArmChair GM fantasy league on CapFriendly over in the forums. It's basically a 32 man fantasy hockey league with trades, draft, scoring/standings, playoffs, etc. We're looking to find a new GM for Florida. We started with the origonal rosters 2.5 years ago so rosters are much different than they were when we started. I've added the link to the team page down below as well. If you think you might be interested, shoot me a dm on twitter @wadejos1231 (twitter is required as most of our game runs on twitter). Thanks!

Avs decline. They aren't paying that to move RyJo.

A 3rd and a 4th is a low price to pay to get 4MM for the next two years if you no longer want the player.

As it happens the Avs actually need RyJo right now. RyJo also still has value so no, they aren't paying that to move him.

Fair enough. But I see many Avs fans still posting ACGMs trading him away.

Certainly they might trade him away. It's kind of an 'ideal world' scenario on here for Avs fans when trading him (with a replacement 2C in place). Once everyone is fit and healthy and if they can find a 2C then it could (and probably should) be on the cards. In that scenario they may have to pay a little to someone to move him. I still doubt it would be that much as he does have value still to the right team. It's more that he was a cheap gamble for the Avs (in what they gave up for him) but it simply hasn't really been a good fit.
