An Exercise to see if Van could do Next Year with Guentzel

Created by: Victor24
Team: 2024-25 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 15, 2024
Published: Jan. 15, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am not saying Van will do this but it would make them a better team this year and next year.

Van is strong on the RW (Mikheyev, Boeser, Garland) but weak on the left (Hoglander, Kuzmenko). Which makes Lekkerimaki expendable.

Kuzmenko is a reclamation project for Pit

It can be done with sacrifice. No way should Van offer term to Joshua or Blueger. Next year will be time for Aman, Karlsson, Podkolzin, etc.

The defense would be a mess imo. They'd be hit by giving Guentzel a huge contract. Petey and Hronek probably swap term. Hronek will want to capitalize on his season and Petey is young enough for another huge contract by signing for less term.

The team will be looking at bringing Lekkerimaki over after Boeser and Kuz expire. My thought is one will be extended in Van and the other traded or walks as UFA with Lekkerimaki stepping in for 2025-26.

Lekkerimäki should be ready when Garland's and Mikheyev's contracts expires.

laugh laugh You're over the cap. It is set at $87,700,000 this year not $88,500,000

Since William Nyalnder came in at 8x11.5M Elias Pettersson will probably come in around 8x12.5M He's way better than Nylander.

See the line of Joshua-Blueger-Garland has a 67% goal share and a 59% xgoal share. They have been such a great line this year.

I just see this as a great opportunity for Van to get a top flight LW with minimal sacrifice to their prospect pool.

Ok. Don't resign Blueger or Joshua. Replace them with younger and ELC talent. Or trade sign both but trade Garland for a 3rd.

There are many ways to cover 2MM in this team.

Terrible? Not great but terrible? I disagree with that statement.

No doubt that they are playing great. I just worry about regression. They have not been offense drivers historically. Makes me wonder if the system can do wonders for ELC players or bargain contracts. Then the D core is much better off if money is allocated there.

You're allowed....but Tyson Barrie doesn't know how to play defense, Brisebois is at best a good AHL player, and EPd-man isn't NHL ready. Noah Juulsen would be a 2nd pair player. We would get demolished. We would have to score 7 goals a game.

Understandable. I figured if the coaching staff can make Cole look good(ish) they can do more miracles.
