no thanks, I like seth jones, but at 9.5mil long term theres no way Im adding a 1st, and having ellis on LTIR doesn;t really factor in. Hes overpaid by probably 2mil or so.

SO its an average defensive 2RD for 5 mil for 4 yrs versus a just above average 1RD for 9.5mil for a billion years. For the difference in cap hit alone, you can get a good UFA RD.

Both are 29, but theres a big difference in a contract at 5mil ending at age 32, without a NTC, as compared to a 9mil contract ending at 35 with a full NMC.

I don't think Jones would waive his NMC for PHI. If I remember correctly, he did not like playing under Tortz. Regardless, I doubt this would be enough to convince CHI to move him.

I actually think this is a very interesting proposal, not sure which way Davidson would go. As Garak said though, the Tortz factor could stick a pin in this whole idea.

PHI might be the last team Jones wants to go to.

Yeah. It is definitely intriguing. I'd be interested to see how Korchinski and Risto play together. It would also allow CHI to start thinking more about high end draft eligible RHD. As it stands, with Jones and Murphy on the right side for at least the next two seasons, CHI is probably looking at forwards with their first pick in the 2024 draft. But I could see them looking a lot closer at RD if they were to move Jones. I still lean toward picking a forward that early in the draft, though.

Wouldn't the RD come right in time for the Murphy contract to expire? Levshunov would be a great pick.

If Hawks fall out of top3 I want Levshunov. Otherwise top 3 pick they should get high end offensive talent.

Yeah. But him being there gives them less urgency to pick an RD that high. We don't need a #1 projectable RD in the pipeline when we have Jones on the books for the next 7 years. Especially not when we have a much bigger need for top of the lineup forwards. It all depends where we are picking and who is available, though.

Yeah. 1st overall is clear cut, Celebrini. But if we end up at 2nd or 3rd, we should be taking a forward, hands down. After that, yeah, I'm probably looking very closely at Levshunov if he is available. I also would consider Lindstrom, Demidov, Helenius, Eiserman if they are available, though. Also, with the way Buium has looked in the WJC, even being an LHD, he looks like a clear cut homerun of a pick. (over Dickinson, Silayev, Mewes, Jiricek, Parekh, etc.) I think there will be very promising RHD available later in the 1st and 2nd, as well as 2025 and 2026.

When Seth Jones was traded out of Columbus, Reportedly Philly was on his no trade list, I don't see him waiving to go there. Plus that offer is just plain awful for Chicago.

Seth Jones is better than "just above average". If you watch him play night in and night out, he's really good...not elite but really good. I agree he's over paid by $1M and even $2M at most, but he was on a playoff team, fans of the league would be raving about him.

I dont disagree, and its not just torts, I just dont think PHI would:

1. move a 1st
2. want a 9.5mil guy (even without the 6-7 yrs left on the contract)
3. Or place any value on moving the LTIR of Ellis

Its not outside the realm, just dont see Briere and Torts stumping up assets for a 8+ mil player.

It's not easy to get "high end" RD, but you can get top 6 forwards as UFAs. I hear you. Wouldn't hate the idea of getting a forward. Just hoping Nazar/Moore/etc... can help fill those roles w/ 1 high end UFA like Reinhart and 1 middle six UFA forward, BUT extremely hard to project too far out.

Not a fan of this trade proposal. Sure adding another 1st round pick would be nice but as of right now Flyers are sitting it the top wild card spot so who knows how high in the round it would be.
Bringing in Rostolainen in seems to be repeating the mistake made with Jones. He is overpaid for his ability. IMO Flyers got hosed in the trade w/the Sabres just like the Hawks got hosed by the Jackets. Should we go down the same path again?
If Hawks don’t expect to spend to the cap until 27-28 taking on Ellis contract is fine. If they want to make any splashes before that it could be an issue. I know Jones makes more but he at least plays.

Sure. But how long is Renhart's production sustainable for, and what is he looking for in a contract? I'm not exactly against signing him or any UFA's. But, it changes the plan and improving the team that soon depletes our pipeline.

Also, what happens when Levshunov needs a new deal and we have too much salary on the books? Then we have to trade him and set ourselves back a couple more years. Idk. I am not speaking absolutely. Just trying to consider all angles and possibilities. I do like Levshunov a lot and would be super excited if CHI drafted him. And honestly, outside of Celebrini, Demidov, and Lindstrom, there isn't a whole lot that excites me for forwards in the 2024 draft... At least, none that I personally would consider in the top 5. Most of the other ones we could wait and use the TBL pick or a 2nd on, and are more "project" forwards.

Flyers aren't trading high draft assets for 29 year olds.
