Why would the Ducks do this?

Well I understand they got off to a hot start but I think they will probably cool off and could get some futures for Frank Vatrano, if they wouldn't want Xavier then you could switch him for a 1st and the 2nd to a 2026 3rd or 4th.

The only one that gets considered is Peeke.

At this point SJ won't get worse for futures. At least they need a respectable goalie so they have a little dignity. You could pay them to dump Campbell, but not for their goalie.

Anaheim has no reason to do that.

Don't think anyone is taking Campbell for a 1st. Too long for too much money. Also can't trade your first round pick when you are second last in the league

the Anaheim one is a tough one but if they start slipping in the standings which I think they will I can see them making a trade for futures the question becomes what's the price, which I'm trying to gauge atm.

I could see San Jose taking on Campbell if they get a 1st especially considering they won't be any good for at least 3 years, also Blackwood would have to be included for cap purposes plus I doubt San Jose would want to carry three goalies all year.

I think the minimum to dump Campbell is AT LEAST double that. 4 years left at 5 mil. Literally any team in the league, even San Jose could be good 3 years from now. That's gonna cost a ton to offload.

What if the first is unprotected do you think both teams would roll the dice on it.

Edmonton has made some dumb decisions in the past, but this would take the cake. They're still a bottom 5-10 team with Blackwood in net.

The assumption would be they would also get peeke and vatrano, IMO they would be in the playoffs assuming McDavid is healthy, which ATM he obviously isn't. Holland's job is on the line he really doesn't have much to lose IMO he'd probably roll the dice.

Vatrano is exactly the type of effort player that Verbeek and Cronin want more of, not less. Frankie has given everything expected of him and probably more. He helps push Anaheim into a much, much better place of having a winning mindset and culture. He's a big part of that.

At some point the future needs to become now or it'll never happen. The reality is the Ducks have a top 3 prospect pool in the NHL already, do you really think a draft pick in 2026 or some meh B level prospect matters to them?

If you want to pry Vatrano out of Anaheim and get 50% retention for multiple seasons to boot that is going to have a high price. Something so good the Ducks can't say no. This trade sure isn't that.

They'd need more than just a first to take on campbell. That's a LOT of term and our owner is already hurting from this rebuild. The common theme with the Sharks moves over the last two years is getting rid of term, even if it means spending to the cap this year

Vatrano is an easy choice to keep as a veteran presence for the team. Henrique and Silfverberg will be gone after this year leaving Killorn and Strome as the only vets on contract.

Considering Vatrano is playing far better than expected, there’s no reason why the Ducks would move him unless it was an overpay.
