Not bad. Barbi is probably worth a 2nd and taking on Mantha's bad contract uogrades it to a 1st. Both are UFA's. Not sure the Sharks should have to throw in a 4th. Remove that 4th and I'm sold. But I'm a Shark's fan. We'll see what the Caps fans say.

No way the caps give up a first round pick to move Mantha. Multiple smaller assets, sure, but that pick could be a lottery pick. And even if it's protected, there's no guarantee that the caps will even be a wildcard team in 2025. Rather hold onto Mantha for one season and cut losses.

The 1st isn't just to move Mantha. It's to move Mantha AND acquire Barabanov, who's a really good player on a bargain contract. He could help the Caps make another run while you still have Ovechkin.

Understood about lottery protection on the 1st.

Mantha has one season remaining. The Caps aren’t going to pay to move him. The Caps also wouldn’t pay any 1st for Barabanov. Barabanov is an UFA, the Caps can just sign him in the off-season and pay nothing if they’re so inclined.

Also it’s highly unlikely the Caps are going to pay for Cap Space this season, they’re not going to be competitive.
