I wouldn’t do this as a Canucks fan. Yeah the 2nd rounder is nice, but I don’t love the minimal cap savings we get from downgrading Garland to Joseph, and Joseph would end up being an expensive 4th liner for the next 3 seasons

The two main reasons we’d be moving Garland is for cap space and to clear our logjam of wingers. This doesn’t help much with the cap space, and doesn’t help our winger situation either

If Murray is bought out that puts you over the cap. I’m not sure why you changed the upper cap limit here, it would stay the same and you’d be over and forced to move someone.

I’ve also said this on another post - Garland doesn’t make sense because it’s costing you Pinto. Not in terms of trade, but contract status. Pinto is likely getting more than the $2.5M you have here, and I’m not sure why Ottawa fans keep devaluing him just to try to fit him in the cap. If it was that low he’d likely be signed by now.

The best comparison for Pinto is Kasperi Kapanen’s second contact, the one he signed with Toronto off he is ELC. Very similar production and very similar players at the time. Kapanen signed for 3.93% of the cap, so if that’s the number for Pinto then he’s signing a 2 or 3 year deal at $3,281,550M which you don’t have the cap for here, so it comes back to not making the deal for Garland.

No the best comparable is the one Maxine Comtois signed after 33pts in 55 games. 2 x 2

Ottawa fans and Pierre Dorian know that his value is <2.5million. Especially on a bridge contract. It is also very comparable to the Eller contract. It is also fair value for a third line center.

I changed the cap limit because if the Leafs buy out Murray. Which is a likely outcome, Ottawa gets out of 1.3 million that was retained in the initial deal when Murray was traded to the Leafs. Since you cannot remove that I changed the upper limit.

I really hope that we add someone like Pius Sutter (great defensively), Tomas Tatar (scored more goals than Tarasenko), or Maxime Comtois (great potential and more added scoring) to the team. Having Egor Sokolov or Angus Crookshanks for the fourth line.

Not the best comparable? .. The comparable you used is literally over a 55 game stretch. You can't fully judge a player on that amount of games. The comparison I used was his entire NHL career and Kapanen's career to which they both have almost identical production. You can disagree that you don't like it, but you can not call the Kapanen comparison bad. It's literally almost identical to Pinto's production over his full career which is almost the best comparison. Just because you wanna save a bit on the cap doesn't mean that you can completely forget about half of Pinto's career for contract talks.

That's a terrible defence point. You can argue if they're overpaid or not, but that now sets the market for similar players. Sorry you can't save cap just because you want to. Players are going to try to get the most they can and if you can't fit it in the cap they'll get it elsewhere.. Pinto can sign a deal overseas until Ottawa works their cap out.

We still own his rights, he has very little leverage because he has no arbitration rights and is not eligible to sign an offer sheet. There could also be questions about his long term shoulder health given that he missed a season because of it.

Last year was also his first full year. <2.5m is incredibly fair for what he brings. It will also be a bridge and he is banking that he can get more when the cap raises.

Kapanen was also coming off his first full season and signed a bridge and was banking on a raise when the cap was supposed to raise.

If it was under $2.5M it would have be signed by now.

Not necessarily, you forget the notion that Alex DeBrincat trade talks and contract talks held up the cap picture. He could very well have not have even gotten to Pinto because he was spending a lot of time on that issue. Also, Kasperi Kapenen was also paid for his potential as a good top six forward, whereas Pinto's celling is a little less clear.

There's currently 52 RFAs not under contract for next season. Should we assume they will all get over 2.5?

I'm open to bets if you want. Pinto is going to sign for 2.5 or under. This summer is costing a lot of money so I wouldn't mind making some back tears of joy
