Tampa can get alot more for Colton than a prospect who can't stay healthy

Wouldn't Seattle be a thousand times better off spending 11m on UFAs, rather than trading for Tavares and trading those picks?

they have no choice, their hands are tied by the cap. they'd rather take a flier on a cheap player who has the potential to produce at coltons pace if they want to contend. not sure if another team can match that or if theyd go higher.

8 million for a 70-80 point centerman is a great deal. seattle is deep, but they need high end talent and the FA pool is pretty bare.

By your post....Tavares is an 11m cap hit, and I doubt Seattle has the cap for him. Of course it's more than fantasy that Tavares waives Seattle.

looks like i forgot to add the retained salary, my bad. ill fix that. and yes, this is more of a pipe dream, moreso what the roster could look like in 2 years when JT's contract is up, with different role players depending on availability

ThoughI would love the trade as Leaf fan, I find it funny that so many Leaf fans want to trade their high priced players, which could make them weaker in the upcoming season. Scoring in the playoffs has been the Leafs downfall in the past few playoffs. Though Barbashev has good spurt last year with Vegas.....he's averages 37 points a season....hardly worth 6m.

he started to score when he played with eichel and stone. he'll have similar caliber players with matthews and marner. i'd rather barbashev and konecny at 11.7 (including the JT retention) than just JT at 11. gives more scoring depth, something the leafs lack.

In all seriousness, it will be very interesting to see how he does without McAvoy saving his a$$

maybe. I felt that an underrated reason for boston losing that series in game 6 is when they started clifton over gryzlyk. i think that they would've won with gryzlyk in - not cuz he's good or anything, but clifton was pretty responsible for a couple of panther goals

Flyers will want more for two years of retention. That would be our last retention slot after TDA gets moved. Without retention I'd think they'd consider it.

that'll open up after tony's contract expires this year. could also involve a 3rd team potentially.

True, it all just depends on how Briere chooses to use that third slot.

That's fair..... Clifton is kind of a spaz with the puck and when defending in high intensity situations - he was definitely responsible for Game 6. I guess the word I would use for Grzelcyk would be feeble. I wish there was a stat for percentage of 1 on 1 puck battles won

Reasons why NHL players want to play in Seattle - No state income tax. Reasons why JT won't play in Seattle, 8M in cap space to spend of better depth than one player over 30.

Seattle's not going to give up many picks in this years draft when they are still trying to build out a prospect list - and especially when the draft is this deep. I'd venture they might move one 2nd at most but I'd be willing to say they keep their top 4 picks and do just fine trading a 3rd or a 4th to a cap strapped team for a core player this year at most. Their top priority is re-signing Dunn, not trading for over valued contracts.

i disagree, chicago is going to look to insulate bedard with some servicable players for his development. could be a 7th, could be future considerations for all i care.

So they can sign free agents for that and keep the pick.
