Leafs aren't trading Matthews. And certainly not within the division. And certainly not for a bunch of B and C level pieces. They would want quality, not just quantity (they also aren't rebuilding and don't want a bazillion draft picks)

First off Matthews would not be traded within the division and hes already made it clear he wants to stay and with Doan being added probs will see an 8 year deal before training camp

Those Bazzilion picks can be used to acquire other players to fill Matthews role. With 3 firsts and 2 seconds as well as Zadina and Raymond, you can flip those for bonafied stars to fill out the leafs lineup. I understand the trade would never ever happen but the return is not bad

Great trade for the Leafs. Picks and new found cap. Hey maybe even the Leafs resign Matthews in 2024.

You forgot to add Seider, Edvinsson, Larkin, and the title to Yzerman's car. For someone always so on point and masterfully crafty with perfect ACGMs, you sure are slipping on this one.

Agreed, although for this package, I think it's worth it. At best, Detroit's team is likely going to be crippled, at worst it probably works out for both sides.

It absolutely cripples the Wings lol, that many picks plus Kasper, Raymond, and Johansson basically ensures that the holes in the roster today remain there.

Matthews is an excellent excellent player, and if I'm Toronto I'd obviously want a massive deal to get him, but this makes no sense at all for the Wings either

B and C level? I mean some of that for sure, but you do know that includes 3 top 10 pick equivalents right? Raymond has already had a 57 point season, Kasper was 8th overall last year, and 9th overall this year. Plus a bunch more

It makes no sense for either side whatsoever, but don't diminish the literal top prospects in one of the higher end prospect pools in the league

Yeah, I don't disagree that this would be a terrible move for Detroit and one that he wouldn't do. Even if you overlook the players and futures that Detroit is losing, Matthews' cap hit is also going to make it difficult to add via FA. I was just speaking to the idea that Matthews wouldn't be traded within the division unless it's in a deal like this where the acquiring team probably doesn't benefit although they are getting the best player.

In terms of what the Leafs are getting back, worst case they probably get a top 6 F in Raymond+ a ton of 1sts+ cap space that can be used to improve the team even if somehow the rest of the players don't turn out to be anything.
