I have NOT seen that video. If you have it, I'd love to see it.
You only say that because the pick didn't work out. He created value out of literally nothing because I agree with you, they would have drafted Sandin.
I agree the 1st for Foligno was stupid. He half A$$ed that trade. I agree. It was bad. I don't think that ROR trade was bad. TBD on the McCabe/Lafferty. Getting NHLers on top of Free Cap Space for (2) more years is HUGE. Look no further than what LAK just gave up for $1.8M in cap space. Marleau was Lou's creation. I don't blame Dubas for cleaning up previous GMs mistakes. That FullNMC was the single/only reason it cost that much.
But also, let's not forget something we haven't yet talked about. Dubas went out and got 1sts too. Trading KK for a 1st! Come on now! AND Amirov is not Dubas' fault. Come on, let's at least agree that Dubas didn't create that issue. We'll see what happens with the BOS 1st. We don't have a crystal ball.
I believe it’s in the Maple Leaf Blueprint series. Try this episode.

The video also talks about how they traded for McCann so they wouldn’t lose Kerfoot. I am the biggest Kerfoot hater out here. If your team is so soft, don’t blame Matthews or Marner — getting rid of guys like Kerfoot who is Charmin soft and tiny is an easy fix.
Moving down a few spots to select Sandin didn’t move the needle. Was it a good pick — yes, it was a great pick — but the additional pick did nothing, so I’m not sure how it’s a “huge win?” That said why did he trade Sandin? That kids is going to be a star. Dumb trade.
The only problem I had with the ROR trade was that he was really struggling all year. It was a risk. ROR was better than I thought he would be. Problem now is they can’t afford to keep him.
Foligno 1st, 4th, 4th, Ritich 3rd, Hutton 5th, Nash 7th — that’s near an entire draft for one guy that played 4th line center in game 7 and had 1 assist in 4 playoff games. I’m not going to comment on how short sighted that was at the time and even worse looking back. He traded for quantity, had he packaged all those picks together he could have gotten something special.
Dubas was the assistant GM when Marleau was signed. AGM do deal with contracts. That said the issue wasn’t as much the contract as it was how he got rid of it. Nobody ever paid a 1st to get rid of 1 year until Dubas did it.
Yeah he got a first, let’s hope that player is half as good as Sandin. Those are the deals you make with firsts — get a young established player and remove the chance from the pick — someone that will be with your team for years. Not trading firsts for UFAs or to dump contracts.
