Do you think Lindholm was traded as a Norris contender? Lindholm might get a couple votes this year but he is by no means having a year much better than Hanifin did last year.

Gudbranson was a decent defender for Calgary last year. Bread eater had 35 goals. Clearly what ever was clicking in Calgary for certain players last year is no more, the subtraction of 2 first line forwards shouldn't affect the team that much considering you got stuff back for Tkachuk too. Doesn't help Brad was baited into the Florida tap-in offense hype. At least Weegar is good

This take really avoids the main issue at hand here. Outside of Tkachuk and Gaudreau go look at the drop in production for every star player coached by Sutter. He simply just let that first line play last year and coached the rest of the team. The only thing he really did with that 1st line was make Gaudreau a more defensively responsible player. But go look at guys like Selanne, Iginla, and Kopitar. All 3 had clear drops in production in all their seasons under Sutter they were all ppg+ players prior to him, then fell to under ppg players under him, and all instantly returned to ppg+ players away from him. I'm not saying he is a bad coach by any means but he really emphasizes low risk, high possession hockey and shot count > shot quality. Under say Boudreau or someone we would more than likely see a lot higher scoring from this team.

The team also went through a crazy amount of discord in the offseason and Sutter is a coach that can be very taxing on players.

I have no idea why people ever though Lindholm was an overpayment. It was clearly a fair deal to me from day 1. Lindholm has been well known as being one of the stronger shutdown dmen in the league for a while, but over the previous 3-4 years he played for what was without question just a really bad team.

The idea that Hayes, a depreciating asset on an outrageous contract who’s been seen as lazy and disinterested through three teams now, is worth more in trade than Noah Hanifin is funny. Philly will be lucky to get Foudy and a mid round pick for him, even with retention.
