Well, since you asked for criticism, I only have 1 thing. If the Stars only gave a 4th round pick (non-conditional I think) to LA for Ben Bishop's rights, what makes you think they will give a 3rd for Williams' rights?

Because they need a RW, and that 3rd changes to a 6th if Williams doesn't sign. That 4th LA got was a 4th regardless of whether Bishop signed with Dallas or not.

Caps have maybe 2 player rights that teams might actually want
        1.shatt
        2.alzner

Dallas would maybe give you a 3rd for bc but no team will give you 2nd and a 3rd...but his low cost would probably benefit caps more than a 3rd

Beagle is probably the best 4th line center in the NHL I wouldnt trade him. Then you replaced him w a guy w 0 NHL experience.

The 3rd pairing is extremely weak. Maybe add a vet and see if either is NHL ready

I think you could have done way more w 77million

That's paying waaaay too much to get rid of Orpik. Hobbs is a stud and can easily be a 2nd pairing dman. Gustafsson has all the capabilities to be a 3C one day too. Then you throw a 2nd on top of that. Just way too much for Orpik, I'd rather keep him.

You can also get way more in the WPG trade. Grubauer alone will get you a 1st or at least two 2nds. Beagle would get you a 3rd and the rights to Alzner would get you a 4th too. So WPG should be giving up a 1st+2nd+3rd for all of that.

They needed a goalie when they traded for Bishop I don't see the difference

Franson is in there cause he has NHL experience. If Djoos-Bowey doesn't work out, that's why Franson is there. Beagle also looked terrible in the playoffs. Boyd can play in the NHL. He's fast. I don't know what you're trying to say about the Dallas thing.

That's a lot to give up for a goalie who has never been a solid number 1 starter in the NHL... and Beagle is an above average aging 4th liner. That's not worth a 3rd round pick. I also think you're over valuing Hobbs, but yes, maybe that is too much to just get rid of Orpik. However, you're also paying to keep Schmidt and Grubauer.

Beagle needs to stay. He's far too important to this team. You hear everyone in the organization talk about how hard a worker he is, that's someone you want to have around when we're going to have a good amount of youth injected into our lineup next season. And even if Grubauer hasn't proven himself as a #1 goalie, the potential is still there and it's quite likely he reaches it. Carolina paid Scott Darling big bucks for a guy who hasn't proven himself yet.

I'd also like to see Connolly stick around with some increased minutes. He was really good for us this season, I could see him getting 20 goals playing a full season getting a couple more shifts per game. Much rather see him back with us than another rookie. Having Boyd, Stephenson, Barber and Djoos being everyday NHLers next year would scare me. Djoos and Barber should see a couple games here and there, but the other two shouldn't see any significant time unless there are some injuries.
