OTT & LAK Fans - Does This Make Sense?
To me it makes no sense for the Kings and more sense for Ottowa.
Kings Perspective: Erik Karlsson is an amazing player and amazing defenseman, he is known for his offensive abilities and how he can take over a game offensively while still playing outstanding defense. Put him in the Kings defensive system, I don't trust that he will put up the same numbers year in and year out. Throwing a more offensive minded d-man into a defensive system wouldn't prove to be the best move. While some people would argue that he would bring more all around offense to the kings, my counterpoint is that he wouldn't have the speed there with him to flourish. Drew plays in all situations and most of the time has either Kopitar's or Carter's line out there with him, which outside of Carter, sometimes Iafallo, Reider and rare flashes of Pearson(assuming the Kopitar line is Iafallo-kopi-brown and carter's -pearson/reider-carter-toffoli) he has nobody that will be able to match and play with his speed. Looking at the rest of the lineup (especially defensively) the only other one who would be able to go stride for stride with him is Kempe (who I think really needs to be playing with better linemates than Lewis and Clifford if the Kings want him to develop... but that's beside the point). Plus he wouldn't have a defensive partner that would be able to match that offensive game, except maybe Martinez. With all that being said I think that would be somewhat of a downgrade for the Kings.
Ottowa Perspective (gonna be a lot shorter considering I am a kings fan): Drew Doughty shows flashes of being able to take over offensively. Take him out of a defense-first system and let him fly around out there, he will probably do great, simply put.
To me it makes a lot more sense for Ottowa and not a lot of sense for the Kings.

Buyers (any rentals that make sense): Boston, Pittsburgh, Winnipeg, Dallas, St. Louis, San Jose
Minor Buyers Who Could Still Add A Big Name Player (adding a bigger name rental is unlikely but still could happen): Anaheim, Philadelphia, New Jersey
Minor Buyers: Toronto
Probably Keep The Team Mostly The Same Except Maybe Minor Buyers (could make maybe one smaller deal for a rental): Vegas, Minnesota
Non-Rental Buyers (trying to add non-rental players that can help them now): NY Islanders
Buyers And Sellers: Carolina
<strong>Not Buyers Or Sellers: Los Angeles</strong>, Columbus, Calgary
Either Sellers Or Neither (won't be buyers ... could be sellers but could be neither also): Colorado
Sellers Only For The Right Offers (sellers but have to be careful sellers): NY Rangers, Edmonton
Sellers But How? (sellers but no idea what they'll do): Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa
Sellers: Florida, Detroit, Vancouver
Rental And Non-Rental Sellers: Arizona
Major Sellers: Buffalo
I think i've got every team, tell me if i missed any!</div></div>
Rob Blake specifically said that the Kings are looking for a mid-level scoring winger, but also won't be trading for any rentals.. I think that fits the non-rental buyer category not the not buyers or sellers category

The Maddening Inconsistency of the DoPS
While I am a Kings fan, I will try to leave all bias aside here. If you watch the Brown hit, Brown had no intention of hitting the head. The NHL (and all sports for that matter) are trying to ensure the safety of each player's head a lot more now and I do believe that because Brown did not hit him in the head, he did not get suspended. Now onto the Cogliano hit, it was to the head and that is part of the reason he did get suspended. Comparing the two hits side by side, Brown's hit was just as dirty as Cogliano's, but Brown's hit came as/right after Schultz had gotten rid of the puck, while Cogliano waited a solid 1-2 seconds after the puck was passed until hitting Kempe. Also you have to take into account that Cogliano got 2 minutes for his hit, while Brown got 5 minutes and was ejected. Again, trying to put no bias into this because Brown's hit was dirty as well, but I do think the main reason that Brown was not suspended and Cogliano was is because of the contact to the head with Cogliano's hit and no head contact with Brown's hit.
This has nothing to do with the paragraph above, but I also think Malkin should have received something for spearing Brown in the man's area, to agree with the inconsistency of the DoPS.

Sorry but LA is not giving a 2nd round pick for a 29 year old with a career high 36 points... I realize that isn't the main point of this AGM, but don't put unrealistic stuff on there just to add cap space and draft picks...

ANA and LAK
I voted for the Kings, and that's because I'm a Kings fan. But I'm facing the reality, it is very unlikely the Kings will make the playoffs. It would be nice, but I don't think it is realistically going to happen. They started in the right step by cleaning house. I am kind of tired of seeing them score only 1 goal per game (if that). They hired an offensive coordinator which will hopefully help bring that up. Realistically, the only way the Kings are making the playoffs is if Kopitar puts up 65+ points, Carter puts up 60+ points, Doughty just does his thing, Quick has a full season with 37+ wins, and the biggest thing of all, the kings need secondary scoring out of guys like Toffoli, Pearson, Kempe, Lewis, Brown, etc. Also this is just me saying this but I think everyone underrates Muzzin.
With that said, all of this can happen, but they need to go out and get a 2nd line center. This would allow Carter to play the wing with Kopitar at center. The ideal situation would be for Vilardi to play that second line center so they don't need to give anyone up. That being unlikely, I would like the Kings to trade either Muzzin or Martinez for a guy like Adam Henrique.

I have a few things:
1. Vilardi will be on his last year of his ELC, so you can bump his salary way down
2. I would not sign Vrbata for anything more than 1 year 1 million
3. There are three lines, but this can be fixed if you fix up Vilardi and Vrbata to give about 4.5 mil to the 4th line (1.5 mil max per person)

Back to being Kings by trading with Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CameronLeafs</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rmay50</b></div><div>
Go look at KingsGKG's AGM's there are a few where Doughty goes to someone else. There's two to Boston, one to Calgary, one to Anaheim, one to Edmonton, and I have seen other AGM's where Doughty goes to teams other than the Leafs, just don't specifically remember who they were done by. By the way, when Kings fans trade Doughty to the Leafs on here, it's nothing personal against the Leafs or Leafs fans, it just seems like it would make the most sense for the Kings to trade Doughty to the Leafs if they ever decided to trade him. We all know Matthews, Marner, and Nylander have earned their payday when it comes, and it would be kind of hard to pay 3 guys huge money that people project them to get. That's a good problem to have, 3 young guys who are amazing scorers. We are never trying to argue with you, we just feel that this would be the trade that makes the most sense for the Kings and their future, given that we are Kings fans we obviously would want them to be good.</div></div>
I see where you are coming from, but Doughty would fetch more than Nylander and Marner in 2 years so I don't see that move being particularly cap friendly. I see how Doughty is a generational talent and would help any team he joins immensely, but I don't see how him, or any 27+ year old defenceman would fit the leafs build. If the leafs trade for a top pairing D I hope it would be someone along the lines of Hanifin, Trouba, Provorov, Parayko, Manson or Gostisbehere, someone close to the age of Matthews.
However this forum is just for fun, and even though I think any Doughty trade is unlikely, its still fun to just consider options.</div></div>
Fair enough. I just feel like we are on the wrong foot with leafs fans and I wanted to clear that up

Maybe so. But his Hall of Fame is kinda meaningless. It would he will do the next two years. Gee the Kings missed the playoffs with this Hall of Famer last year. If the Kings were to trade him, would any team offer more? I have yet to see any other trade except to the Leafs.</div></div>

Coming from a Kings fan, I would want a pick with this but honestly I wouldn't mind doing this trade as is. I already have a bad feeling that Kopitar's contract will go down as one of the worst contracts in the league when he's making 10 mil from ages 33-36. Might as well try and trade him now because I doubt any team would want him when he's in his mid-30's. Also if the Kings don't find someone to play on his wing (I hope Vilardi is ready by next year and can play the second line center and move Carter to wing with Kopi) then Kopitar will continue his offensive struggles. I hope none of this happens but it's a likely reality now.
