What if we kept Hyman

Created by: The_tarasenkshow91
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2023
Published: Feb. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- Would easily solve our top 6 winger crisis, and we could fit him in for years to come as well, barring bunting takes around 4 million and some other moves
- you are set on the wing for years to come, meaning we can afford to move knies for chychrun
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Hyman, Zach ($700,000 retained)
Additional Details:
- assuming he takes a discount with the leafs. He got 38.5/7 years, and I’m assuming around 38.5 for 8 years which is just over 4.8 m
EDM
2.
TOR
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
  2. Chychrun, Jakob ($2,300,000 retained)
Additional Details:
- you are set on the wing for years to come, meaning we can afford to move knies for a degen men with term like chychrun or McCabe. I just don’t see our current blue line making it out of the Atlantic, let alone first round. I like all 6 of our guys, and I can see all of them being a part of a cup winning blue line, just not all on the same one.

Considering the production we're getting out of Bunting for his contract, I think it's safe to say it was the right move to let Hyman walk. I think you're also forgetting the cap situation at the time and the pressure to find a new goalie. Also, why are we talking about acquiring Chychrun for Knies? We should be talking about trading Rielly before giving him that awful contract and then replacing him with Chychrun.

If they somehow managed to keep Hyman, they still would be having the same problem next year when they would let Bunting go assuming they still acquired him.

You seem to forget that Muzzin was on the roster and non injured when the season started.

I think we could sign bunting and hyman. Chychrun was just an idea, I do agree that 7.5 for Reilly isn’t what I want to pay him considering how the rest of our roster is constructed.

That’s a good point, although I would’ve moved him for somebody similar to him but cheaper

I think we’d be able to keep bunting if he wants around 4-4.5.

With Hyman at 4.8m, it would be a tight fit for the 2023-24 season having Bunting at 4-4.5, and probably would need to ship Bunting off to keep around Matthews and/or Nylander in the 2024-25 season.

Edit: Maybe with a 2.3m Chychrun things would be easier but I don't see that as a viable option for the Leafs.

Yeah, maybe McCabe at 2?

If they are giving up a 1st+a B-prospect for McCabe at 50% they better be getting Toews for a 3rd lol.
