Lindy should not be extended. Bring on the Brunette era.

From what you have seen in playoffs thus far, in limited sample of course, what are your takeaways? Do you see anything new with our team now that they are in playoffs? Has your view on what teams needs to do in off-season changed at all?

My first impressions….

1. Face-offs do matter. Especially for teams (and lines) that beat opponents with possession game. McLeod has been great as always, but any possession we gain draw is usually given away shortly thereafter. And I feel like many of Jack’s minutes were wasted chasing the puck after a lost face-off (even though he has been better recently). I haven’t checked data yet on this…but imagine it holds. I think having a winger on his line that can take draws would be…not a must….but a plus.

2. We are going to miss Severson if we let him walk. He has been our best all around dman in playoffs, and most reliable guy we got for d-zone exits.

3. I am not sure what role Boqvist should be playing here. Probably best as 13F since he can fill in anywhere, but I find it hard to justify a roster spot at this point. Sharangovich hasn’t been scoring, but at least has put pressure on forecheck, kills penalties, etc.

4. Wood, McLeod, Bastian, when together, could not find a foothold to start. I can see why Lindy broke them up.

5. Nico is hurt. He must be. His signature ability in pulling the puck off the boards has been absent. He is slow on faceoffs. And every time he gets dinged, it takes him an extra second to get back up. My hunch…he is playing hurt.

6. Getting shots through on net seem to be harder than they have ever need any season (can’t believe I am going to say this, but it’s the first time I miss Subban). Whether it’s tactical or technical, some solution needs to be found.

7. The officiating has been bad at times. But it shouldn’t impact the guys as much as it appears to.

8. I know the impulse for many will be we need “more grit” or “more toughness”…and while those are useful in playoffs, I think for many of our players, that will come with age. Maybe not for little ones, but certainly for bigs. It’s more of a mental toughness that concerns me. During season, they were unflappable. Rarely got hung up on officiating (except maybe that streak-ending game vs Leafs)…never griping each other on bench. First two games, they bent too much. Last night was better.

1. Adding onto this, Im starting to like Haula and Hughes together. Takes ALOT of pressure off of Hughes to play defense and win faceoffs

2. Severson has been fanastic these playoffs. Hope he takes home-town discount

3. Boqvist didn't look too bad today. Wonder if Ruff tries 11/7

4. Miles Wood has fallen off completely.

5. Meier looks more hurt than Nico.

6. NYR doing a good job blocking shots. Only 26 shots on goal per game compared to our regular season 34

7. MSG ice is also brutal

8. More "Grit" made us lose games 1 and 2 (I will explain with my takeaways)

Ruff almost threw away the series by using "more grit". Playing Miles Wood and Brendan Smith over Siegenthaler and Boqvist/Shara.

Now the Devils are playing their usual "Devils hockey" which we've seen 5/6 times has resulted in a Devils win

Gritsyuk is coming!!

Sounds like he will not be resigning with Avangard. Contract is up April 30 and his agent has said he intends to join Devils.

I wish! Won’t be that good…probably more similar to Jason Zucker type.

Pelicans are down 3-1 in finals, down 3-0 in game.

Enter Topias Vilen (assist from brother, Elias).

Oh boy

Game 7

I knew that was going to happen.

First close out game was just like first regular season game, first playoff game.

Hopefully they can figure it out

(and not let bad refs get in their heads)

Gritsyuk has declined his offer from Avangard. He is asking for about $650,000 (Avangard offered half that).

Hopefully NJD offers him 2-year deal, even if they loan him back to KHL for first year.

Are the taking the dated ravings of a fan as literal?

No, I did not know the future. But after game 5, I had a feeling we would be back for game 7.
