Boston is over the cap when everyone healthy already.

Even if that was not the case, they still decline.

laugh Yeah like Allvin is trading Miller after giving him a 7 year extension, Since when does Boston have the cap space for Miller and Ekman-Larsson? Once both Marchand and McAvoy get back they're still going to have cap issues. And they don't need to add another $13,000,000 betweem Ekman-Larsson and Miller.

Leafs are not trading Niemela or a 1st for one season of Horvat. Leafs can't afford to extend him unless he takes a massive pay cut and reduced role. Which seems doubtful to me.

I'm not sure what Horvat's value is. Your probably close. A 1st and decent prospect seems reasonable. But he has very little value for the Leafs. Leafs won't give up anything Vancouver would want for him.

Cool. Let’s see it in North America before getting excited.

He might not turn out just like any prospect. As a young prospect, the hope is that he will be able to transition his game to NA ice and then ultimately be able to play in the NHL. The only reason not to be excited is if one isn't typically excited for prospects.

Both teams are in need of a RHD (sooner or later), so just like Vancouver wouldn't trade away Schenn for a center for example, the Leafs wouldn't trade Niemela for a center, especially not for a rental.

In addition to looking great in Finnish pro league, he was the, or one one of the, best defenseman at most recent juniors (both on North American ice).
He’s legit; and won’t he used as bait for a rental

leafs have no need for Bo. great player but, id rather have niemela on the right in a few years with

Brodie
Liljegren
Niemela

as the right D.

as far as the offer. its a little lopsided in favor of the canucks but still not a bad offer

I never said he wasn’t good. I said he wasn’t special. In the context of a trade for a retained horvat he shouldn’t be off the table.

Depends what you mean by special; is he Cale Makar - no. Can he play top 4 RHD one day - looks like it. So too high a price to pay for <1 year rental of 3rd line center.

There are tons of guys that litter lower level leagues that look like they could play top four one day. Mason Lohrei is playing like 30 minutes a night dominantly in NCAA. I certainly don’t think he’s untouchable if a high end roster player were added to the bruins.

Alexandre Daigle was drafted first overall; doesn’t mean Conor Bedard will be a bust. Point is Niemela has multiple sources of supporting info (excellent performance in Finnish league, recognition at best on best for his age group - world juniors, scouting assessments) indicating he will be a good to great nhl player. Nothing certain but top 4 projecting RHD are valuable

Sure. NHL centers coming off 31 goal seasons are more valuable

Not for <20 games, and in a position of strength already.

Aren’t the playoffs what matter here? 20 regular season games reduces the cap hit and is a benefit, not a detriment.

If Horvat moved the needle for sure, but he’s not as good as Tavares and not enough better than Kerfoot to warrant a price this high. 1st is already steep, maybe a mid level prospect but that is it . If Horvat was a top 4 RD, maybe.
