I was convinced he was getting traded, if not before the season then at the deadline. Interesting

I mean this doesn't mean he doesn't get traded. This means whoever trades for him is not trading for a rental anymore

It'll be interesting to see how the last couple of years are structured. But if the offers for him were really as bad as people have said this is a pretty good contract given the circumstances.

Nice signing for both sides! I really wanted him on the Leafs. Win for Vancouver to get him signed long term!

Jt miller has the same points per game as Gaudreau over the last 3 years and only 19 fewer non emptynet/6v5/overtime points as Huberdeau. Same age as both players.

This is a significant discount

The signing announcement is weird from the Van social account. “Agreed on terms”. No hype video, no “8 more years of JT Miller”. Nothing. Just that they agreed on a contract. Very interesting

Yup 100% my only worry would be the last two years

Agreed. Hopefully is heavily front loaded with minimal trade protection in the final 2 years so he can be dumped in Arizona if needed

Would be kind of sad if Arizona was still the league's dumping ground in 6 years from now

Not saying this is bad or good but if you think about it should have traded him for a haul at the draft or last TDL then do one of the following

Go to VGK and take Pacioretty and Coghlan for nothing or trade a 3rd and 4th for Bjorkstrand

As by doing that Van would have got say for Miller (1st + one or two A level prospects and maybe another pick + one of the guys mentioned above)

Would have been a huge W that would have 0 negative consequences as if Miller falls other teams problem and Van walks away with assets to use for either their system or trade

Likely? For that to come to fruition, Arizona would have to really screw up Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther's development

Vancouver had no interest in dealing Miller for pennies on the dollar. If they did that, they might as well just rent him themselves and let him walk afterwards
