Mayfield aside, that meets no needs for Vancouver, and Mayfield’s age doesn’t fit with the team mid-long term.

If this were the best offer I say Vancouver should just hold onto Miller all season and try for the playoffs. I would rather see one round of playoff action then take this deal, even if it meant Miller walks for free at the end of the year.

Edit: he 1st and Mayfield extension didn’t show up when I first viewed the trade. Trade was taken down and description mentioned neither.

Canucks pass. Mayfield is too old for the Canucks core and Bellows would be a 4th liner at best. Most likely one of Raty/Wahlstrom would have to be included

Then you be a stupid GM losing him for nothing and flaming the hatred of your fanbase.
Van takes a risk at the TDL if Miller underachieves in point totals and the team is not in a position to make the playoffs

You propose that trade and I’m the “stupid” one… go figure.

Your not getting a Top prospect for a guy on his last year that will most likely have regression and will be 30 yrs. Who is saying in public that he will close talks with the team once the season begins. Think realistic

Then you put yourself into a Gaudreau/ Tavares situation most of the time that does not end well for the team,

I guess Vancouver will be holding on to miller for the entire season than - because they aren’t getting a top prospect/young player

Mayfield is just NOT a top 4 Dman on a good team. He is no improvement over what Vancouver has now, so a deal is doubtful.

Half of the league would blow away that offer on Miller, not even close.

Mayfield is an expiring UFA at 29 years old, and is not top pair quality. Bellows is also a depth player, saying he is Miller's replacement is laughable because we have so many wingers better than him

You are not getting a PPG 1st line C/W who would be your best forward without giving up quality pieces that fit the Canucks needs. Think realistic

If players like Nick Foligno can fetch first round picks, surely Vancouver can get a top prospect

I never said he couldn’t return a 1st rd pick, but no one is giving up a top prospect for a soon to be 30 YO rental. He’ll likely go for a 1st, 2nd and B- prospect

That is basically what Claude Giroux got and he is worse than Miller, and 5 years older...

Edit: Heck, even Copp got a first, second, and lesser prospect.

Second Edit: Remember the JG Pageau trade?

Giroux got a 1st, 3rd, and B/B+ prospect while only being willing to accept a trade to one team. Miller is better than Giroux, and can be traded to any team, so he should get a better return

For some reason the actually trade didn’t show up when I first viewed it, just the description which neglected to mention the 1st rounder, not sure if the trade was deleted and the 1st added or not…

Without the 1st the trade is frankly laughable, the deal is not nearly as bad if the 1st is included, but I still think there will be better offers that are better fits for Vancouver. Vancouver has plenty of top 9 wingers and needs futures not expiring 30 year old players.

The old sign and trade trick....which doesn't work. So the cap goes 1m, but Miller gets a 5m raise over his Isles cap. How to Isles find cap for Miller, Barzal and Walmstrom.

this is how Benning killed the Canucks. Tanev, Markstrom, Tofolli... all walked for nothing.... Those three along could of made the difference RIGHT NOW. Asset management makes a difference.

Giroux is better than Miller. Copp only returned a first because of the conditions , if VAN wants to put conditions for another 2nd that’s fine

man i thought we all agreed like a month ago that the Islanders and Canucks just don't line up on this deal. Canucks want that RHD, and Isles' depth chart is either guys that are an overpay for a Miller rental(Pulock/Dobson) or not enough to headline a deal (Mayfield/everyone else). And it doesn't make sense for a team with literally one of the worst farm systems in the league to be trading *any* under-23 player that could sniff the NHL this year or next, so Raty/Wahlstrom are off the table. And a deal that starts with a 1st & Simon Holmstrom just doesn't move the needle enough for the Canucks, unless the other 15 or so contenders that could use JTM all of a sudden decide they aren't doing any sort of offers for him.

The 1st wasn't included in the original proposal. Would you still take it without the 1st?
