If you got cap room, might as well keep MacDonald, even if he's buried. It would reduce the number of years of his buy out. Certainly an interesting trade with benefits for both teams.

I just changed it. What you are saying makes total sense, MacDonald can still be a decent number 7 or 8 on any team he is just over paid for that role. The Leafs can simply wait until they need to sign Matthews, Marner and Kapanen then buy him out making the buyout term and cap hit lower.

Why would the Leafs ever take on that McDonald contract without getting something additional in return? Radko Gudas is not a #1 defenceman. He's very much in the same mold as Roman Polak and his game (rather his dirty hits) brings about unnecessary drama to a team (the Leafs) that is apparently all about changing it's culture.

The team loves Polak. He also has above average possession stats. Not a top defender like you said, but top 4 is very arguable. The MacDonald contract is a definite sticking point though. Team has cap space now, don't waste it on bums.

Apparently losing shosh and lepisic would benefit Toronto for a number 6 and 7 dman? Can you explain how that helps Toronto ? Oh that's right your all about throwing away prospects for nothing.
