A team without Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AEcho</b></div><div>I agree with you on that assessment of Novak. I see him more as a LW who can play C. What concerns me is it just doesn't leave NSH with a lot of cap room and as a result might for a lot of guys up early and they might not be ready for it. They could do it, but it feels very high risk</div></div>
Thats why i would include saros + novak in a trade if we were going after marner. That is 8.5 million going out and near 11 million coming in. Problem is where do we find a replacement 2C... not really much options in UFA, there are some trade options (all of which have warts), or the riskier offersheet options.
Would be nice if we would move on from one of schenn (fabbro to 3rd pair) or lauzon (stastney is better defensively but doesnt randomly hit things) to free up a bit more. That is 2 - 2.75 million on what should be 3rd pairing dmen. One at that price is a bit much, two that you cant even pair together is just too much.

Sure in the time he has played he has been great but this year he missed 3 quarters of the season. I think he is worth 5 million but not for 5 years. Roy would probably get more if he signed anywhere else. I think Nashville would accept</div></div>
You think the GM that bought out Duchene and traded Ryan Johansen at 50% retained for futures is going to bring in an underperforming PLD who up to this point in his career has underperformed the aforementioned ryan johansen?

Kings - Preds
Dubious at 8.5 million was a stretch for his production when he signed his contract. Now coming off a miserable season where he looks disinterested half the time and getting ready to have trade protections kick in, nashville will not trade for him.
Trotz just traded out the older version of PLD last summer at 50% retained for future considerations and bought out Duchene to completely change the culture in Nashville. PLD would put them right back where it was. Doesnt make sense.

I can deal with Korpisalo. Yeah he hasnt been great but he is a big Finn and Nashville has alot of experience with that line of goalies. Might be able to work something out of him. Still need a vet goalie whether or not askarov comes up as atleast a backup.

I personally dont see novak as a center. He belongs on wing and moving him to get a better winger and then turn around and secure an actual center would work for me.

Id be interested in Norris in a separate deal that doesnt involve saros but as a part of the return for saros i dont really have much interest. His injury history is too much for me to feel comfortable trading one of our best assets for.

Trade Reilly Trade Marner
Reilly is a bad fit for Nashville. 7.5 million caphit to play 2nd pairing behind Josi and fight for powerplay time. Theyd need to flip him to somewhere else. He isnt young enough to be a successor to Josi as he ages out either.
Value is a bad fit for Toronto.

Yep this trade is a huge gamble for Nashville. Norris (if healthy) would be our best center not named RoR... especially if he can come back confident and in form. This is a big if.
2nd part is outing lauzon for chychrun.
McDonagh/Josi
Chychrun/fabbro
Stastney/schenn
When McDonagh retires chychrun can slide up next to Josi, thatll make way for Molendyk/others to come in as well. That should be pretty good on paper. Management likely doesnt trade lauzon because grit and toughness. So it likely doesnt happen anyways. Theyd probably trade fabbro first.
Forsberg isnt great but atleast it is only 1 more season. Extend lankinen or go after stolarz/Brossoit and bring up Askarov for a run of starts at some point and maybe it turns out not bad.

offseason
Thats an interesting proposal for nashville. Depending on who is there at 7th overall it would be worth considering. Korpisalo's contract is terrible but manageable. Try hard to get a useful year or two out of him and if it doesnt work out his buyout is manageable. Probably would need to get another vet goalie as well just because Korpisalo is likely going to fail but we got the cap.

Torn as a Nashville fan.
Value wise that is extremely good for us. Covers one of our big needs as well.
But.... id much rather have askarov than saros in the long run and we dont really have another good goalie prospect after askarov so this would really chain us to Saros unless we made a trade for someone or drafted someone soon. I guess we could hope Primeau works out... Still... probably would do it because that is really good value.
Dont think Montreal would offer that though. The extra 1st makes it a overpayment in my books.

Something like Marner + Liljegren for Saros + Fabbro + Tomasino + 1 of Parssinen or Glass</div></div>
Well fabbro and glass could definitely be had as Brunette doesnt seem overly fond of em. Tomasino as well for the right upgrade would be on the trade board. I think theyd rather keep Pärssinen. So something could probably be done along the lines of Saros+Fabbro+glass+tomasino for marner+Liljegren

I understand. There just really is a lack of options on the market and i hate what nashville has. Novak really should be a winger.
Reclaimation projects PLD, Norris, and Kotkaniemi.
Tavares is a possibility if he waives

Why is jarnkrok involved in this? Theres already so much cap coming Nashville’s way with Marner. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>If Nashville is trading for Marner they need to move some of their forwards out since a lot of their young guys lose waiver exemption this summer</div></div>

Trying to remake the team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Do you really want Norris and his shoulder injuries?</div></div>
Want? ..... maybe? Maybe not? All i know is, i dont like our internal options at 2C.
Novak is more of a winger
Sissons is a 3C
Parssinen is more of a 3C in training
Everyone else is a prospect
And other external options
PLD is Ryan Johansen but younger. Dont wanna go back to that.
Kotkaniemi is more expensive in terms of cap than Parssinen and im not entirely convinced he is better
Dont think there are really any other realistic names out there. Ottawa isnt trading Pinto. Though he would be who i really want.
Our options kindof suck. Stand pat and waste more time or take a gamble. Norris is the better of the gambles. 60% chance of it ending poorly

There is alot going on here....
Saros for the 1st and Daws as a base is good.
Lauzon for Bahl is fine.
Sissons for the rest i guess?
Nashville wouldnt have much need for Edwards at this point though. Pretty full up on LHD and unless it is lhd in lhd out it doesnt really work.
We are also pretty full on RW prospects but i do like Lenni.
Pretty solid effort overall. Not sure if id take it. But not bad

We have more cost effective versions of Anderson. Egor Afanaseyev should be coming up to the NHL next season and somehow McCarron was more effective than Anderson last season. Pärssinen also fills much of the role and L'Heureux when he comes up is quite the pest though he lacks the size of the aforementioned players. Nashville doesnt lack physical players.

I really dont believe this team gets anywhere with Novak as 2C.
Zadorav is big and strong but i dont think he can keep up with Josi. I think Brunette would keep McDonagh Josi together and have Zadorov with Fabbro since fabbro isnt physical himself to have someone on that pairing that can clear the crease.

Personally think he is still on the block. Brunette just doesnt seem enamored with him or glass. I think the preference is to put McDonagh with Josi and Fabbro doesnt fit with lauzon and lauzon doesnt fit with schenn.... so that leaves things in a really odd position. I think at the end of the day fabbro is out and someone else is brought in. Even when fabbro gets on the ice he is given very limited ice time... even less than schenn or barrie who hasnt seen a game in months.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AK50</b></div><div>Preds pass.</div></div>
I mean i dont think we need chychrun but Batherson is a pretty tantalizing piece. Chychrun is an oddball though being a LHD and us being pretty full up on LHD. Brunette really likes running McDonagh/Josi so a 2nd pairing of Chychrun/Stastney with Stastney playing offhand (he does it in Milwaukee) might work out nicely. Once McDonagh's contract expires, Chychrun moves up next to Josi or as josi ages just takes over 1st pairing by himself.
Retaining on Saros hamstrings nashville going into the deadline leaving us with no retention slots at the deadline so if things go sideways we have no eject buttons.
Then Korpisalo is an overpaid backup and bostons 1st is later.
Losing sissons makes way for Parssinen to take iver the 3rd line center role but leaves a real leadership vacuum in the middle of the lineup.
I dont think ottawa would do it personally and im borderline on nashville as well. It is different atleast.
