He's an average 3rd pairing guy making 5 mill with a NTC for another 2 years. I'd rather keep Jake Gardiner

Value is right but I think the Sabres pass on this deal. They have Tage Thompson, Johannson, Kahun, Middlestadt all vying for similar roles as third line winger that could perhaps bump to line 2 for injuries. If the Sabres are unable to bring in 2 players for their top 6 this offseason then this makes more sense, but if they accomplish that goal this player is redundant for them
