That's a heavy overpayment for Muzzin. Suzuki could be a real 1/2C and is still VERY young, adding a 2nd and a good young player isn't the type of payment I'd make for a near the end of contract older D man especially from a team that should be looking to get younger in itself.

To start, I am not a Montreal fan or an LA fan. I don't understand why an organization that is "kinda rebuilding" that has center depth issues would trade a promising young center prospect for a defense who will probably walk away after a year. If Muzzin resigns for a reasonable amount then it could make sense. I do worry he won't be as good without Doughty though. Just a thought.

They let's assume it's a sign and trade for a reasonable contract. (he will be paired with Weber)

Youngest team means nothing. The CORE being young is the important thing that a lot of people don't realize. Kotka is a good start and Suzuki can be a core player, with a "Sorta rebuild" as mentioned above I don't see the reasoning personally.

EDIT: This is talking about Weber Petry Price etc, MTL does have some good younger players. I don't see them competing until Suzuki is much more prominent in the NHL than Muzzin is at that point though.

Ok, for the sake of the Argument, Would you trade one of our center prospect (except KK) for a good LHD to play with Weber? We have KK, Poelhing, Suzuki -> One of the last two can be flipped for a defensive prospect then... Who is better than Mete and Rielly

Or! Crazy thought! The Habs keep Suzuki and try and draft a Dman or two. I’m not on the Bergy firing wagon but trading a C/RW prospect who has had 96 and 100 points seasons in the OHL when the team needs a couple of pure scoring talents for a D man with one year left should get him fired and blacklisted.

that being said i'd give this a -5 if i could as you just made moves based on cap .
none of these moves make MTL better longterm

we're 7/31 teams in the NHL right now and are competing just fine .
the more established players everyone's convinced we cannot do without have not been missed and struggling on their new team or are injured like usual an havent played yet

just saying MTL is doing just fine and when Weber gets back he'll help address our PP weakness .
if we buy out Alzner and trade a Hudon or Scherbak we will look even better out there

I'm actually a leafs fan, but speaking from the perspective or a non-fan of the team, Poehling is the easy choice, though i'm not convinced MTL should be moving any of the 3. Roll with what you have, MTL isn't realistically at a level to compete with TOR, BOS and TBL at this point. Draft develop and flip players when need be. Mete and Juulsen are good young players, keep them and try to draft a few. Once you garner the pieces and they start to develop you worry about moves like this. Muzzin realistically makes MTL a little better short term, not enough to do anything but lower their draft pick.
