Description
At this point, I feel like we'd be ready for a Cup run. There's all sorts of scoring in the forward group, and the defense is mobile, can defend well and get pucks out of the zone quickly. The top two lines can score almost at will, and the third line has three guys that can really push the pace of the game, generating some offense in the process. Fourth line can play a really good possession game. Lucas Johansen is going to get NHL minutes next season, and he can take a third pairing role from Hjalmarsson if they don't plan on keeping him.

This is a really good looking team for this year, but how does it pan out over the next couple years? Having to sign Djoos, Burakovsky, Vrana, Walker and Stephenson the next offseason followed by Backstrom and Holtby the next year may be too much for the caps to afford. Maybe a Niskanen trade the year after this one could make it possible if Bowey pans out.

However, definitely an A+ team for that season and it can PROBABLY work out cap-wise for the following seasons.

I like it minus the JVR signing and keeping Burakovsky. I’d rather have Kane.

You’re right, moving Niskanen would be the best solution at that point. After making these moves, the thought process would be that this is one last hurrah with Ovi, Nicky and Holtby for a Cup. The cap issue would take the backseat, and we’d be in a “go for it” mode.
