Description
I have a feeling Ducks fans and Wings fans alike will dislike this trade; however, I think it is fantastic. Just look at that offensive depth and peep that second line while you’re at it.

What I see is the Redwings unloading every problem contract on their roster, on top of getting two top 6 forwards both young and under long contract or team control, and another 10 million dollars retained by the Ducks.

And the best piece of payment we get is a guy who just massively regressed, in the WHL.

No, if I were to give you every problem contract I’d have thrown in Justin Holl’s deal.

The only true cap dump is Chiarot’s remaining 2 years at $4.75m and he arguably had a resurgent year this past season albeit still a certified dump.

Husso sucked last year but he’s just got 1 year left and Fabbri is a good player with 1 year left and barring unexpected events could fetch as high as a 2nd round pick at the TDL.

Aside from the three (3) 1st round picks and two 2nd rounders, Nate Danielson is still an A- prospect or B+ at worst, Elmer Soderblom is easily a B+ prospect and is a unicorn, and Shai Buium is arguably one of the most underrated/overlooked prospects in hockey, he’s a solid B.

If we really broke it down with a microscope, Wings would probably owe ya another 1st round pick or so. So it’s not too far off lol.

It feels like you’re looking at value in a vacuum without really considering the other team. ANA is looking to exit their rebuild, not enter into one. Trading core young players for future draft picks isn’t interesting, nor are short term vets

Wipe this trade and simplify it from scratch:

Gibson is available, but retention would be closer to $1.4M/yr. If that isn’t enough, it’s all good, we’ll keep him a bit longer to mentor Dosty. At $1.4M retained he should net some positive value, but admittedly not all that much

Zegras would only be available if ANA got a ‘too good to pass on’ type of offer. Moving him opens up a hole at LW, and his center/LW versatility has already proven really useful. He’s coming off an unlucky injury-plagued season where his value is at an all time low. There’s zero reason to be trading him right now. If we were to explore a trade, I’m not totally sure that DET has something they’d actually let go of that’s worth considering. The Kasper/Danielsons are trending to middle 6 players. It’d have to be more like ASP, but at 5’11” I’m not really sure he’s a fit either. I just don’t think there’s a Zegras trade in DET

Terry isn’t available

How much is Zegras & Terry worth? Because Detroit is giving up 9th overall pick (Danielson), 15th overall pick this year, two future 1sts, + all the other assets.

Trade doesn’t make sense for either team. Ducks want to get better and Detroit isn't trading all those assets.
”Massively regressed” That's just nonsense. But who actually did regress was Zegras.

I'm glad it says "Unlikely Blockbuster" because that's definitely what it is... Terrible trade for both sides in my opinion.

No team is giving up two top six forwards and a starting goaltender in one trade. It just doesn't happen, and for good reason.
And on the other side, no team is giving up that many assets, including a top prospect, just drafted 9th overall, three 1st round picks, and two 2nd round picks, unless it's for a generational talent. Zegras, nor Terry, are close to that...
Detroit are clearly getting the two best players in this trade *right now*, but don't be surprised if Danielson ends up being the best player in 3-5 years from now. Danielson hasn't regressed. He's a very smart, two-way center, has good size, great skating, heavy shot and underrated playmaking. I wouldn't trade him straight up for Zegras. Speaking of a player that regressed...
