Too much for Tavares; Toronto doesn't have any leverage for that ask.

Sabres Tavares offer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DeclanLovesHockey</b></div><div>I love sabres fans they can be hilarious at times</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>if the Leaf's move JT they do it without retention to a team with lots of cap. After July 1st his actual salary is only $910K He would be easy to move</div></div>
salary cheap but cap heavy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Doesn't help the Leafs at all. They retain 5.5m and then they have to spend at 5.5m to replace Tavares. Why would Tavares waive?</div></div>
Well Tavares has all the cards; the Leafs have practically none.
1. He can't be bought out
2. They can't waive him due to the NMC
3. They can't bench him since it will just eat a roster spot and 11mil cap space
4. Tavares isn't going to just waive his NMC to help the Leafs banish him to some faraway land
If he says, Buffalo is my only choice (due to his time spent in the city as a kid due to his uncle) the Leafs can either keep him or do what they must to trade him to Buffalo which would require 50% retention and is almost certainly not giving you much of anything in return.
Perhaps he has another target but it would be much of the same story.

Hawks obviously decline.</div></div>
Well that's certainly disappointing; I love pizza but that doesn't make pizza places a hotbed of hockey thought.

Skinner to Chicago for one of Chicago's 2nds and Aiden Thompson

Frankly that’s a tad overkill for the return; I’d give them Rosen and a 2nd but they’ll have to move on from Karlsson or money in some manner just to function next year.
Perhaps Rosen, 2025 2nd and swapping 1sts this year.

Thread:
Sabres with Marner
I’m just saying that the odds of Toronto finding a taker for Marner at 10.9mil without a lot of money going back is unlikely. If Marner wants to go to another playoff team, they’ll have to eat cap through either retention or players. Additionally, if the team can’t sign him then his value isn’t going to be anywhere near as high for a majority of teams. With that is the full NMC which will likely further hurt Toronto’s return.
He’s a great player but he holds all the cards

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Are you implying Coleman isn't a solid NHL player?</div></div>
Solid but a bit on the older side and has a bit of a painful contract to be frank.
Savoie is presently destroying the WHL so I'd be hard pressed to move him specifically.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Friendly_Cannon</b></div><div>Does anyone find it strange hossa was allergic to his equipment until his contract expired then played in a retirement game the month after that summer??
Edit genuinely asking, never heard much after that but remember seeing him taking part and wondering how.
You can find an excuse. I’m sure most older nhl players need some sort of surgery.</div></div>
Hossa might very well be allergic to his equipment, 1 game for charity doesn’t change that. It likely causes rashes and such and he chose to deal with the result for a singular game whereas an NHL season would only likely cause severe issues later on as the allergens never fully heal.

Unlikely to available but he’d only be accessible through a larger trade including a solid NHL player

Savoie is certainly top tier talent; just look at what he’s been doing in the WHL this year.
That being said I’m not interested in Keller anyway; great player but he is the same as half our other forwards

Buffalo might take that, the retention slides his cap hit more into line with his production and likely line deployment.
However we may not even bother with an extension/a really short one

Can't see Carrier taking a pay cut or Marsh staying at 5mil, you might be able to get a less costly contract that any other team due to mutual interest and state taxes but I doubt they'll just stay status quo or worse
