Well Vegas isn't making that trade...two much cap going Vegas way.
Leafs should just spend 7.5m UFA (s) instead trading Minten and more for one year of Ekblad.
I know Leafs fans hate their own, but in what world is Roy a second line centre over Tavares.

But if Saros isn't going anywhere whataryagonnado</div></div>
NSH has plenty of other assets that could be of interest to TOR outside of Saros. A war chest of picks and prospects who would be good pieces.
Something like Tomasino, Fabbro, a 1st and a 2nd would be a decently haul. A 22y/o RFA winger who can play 2nd line minutes now and has just not been a system fit in NSH (likes to play more of a skill game than a power forward game, which is what Burnette is doing in NSH) a reliable middle pair d-man who is insanely cost controlled and is only 25, and some premium picks helps build up the pipeline and gives more players for Knies and Cowan to grow with

they both got traded for 1sts +.
Both teams were actively trying to find partners
both had nmc/mnmc
both the team had reasons to take less to move him.
nsh has non of these. they have no reason to move him, they have the cap to resign him, they have a young goalie they can slowly work in behind one of the best goalies in the NHL and they arent moving him unless they get a haul. moving on from saros + mid 20s RD whos played top4 mins on a cheap cap hit + 1st + 2nd + 3rd for a player who has maybe 3 teams he would waive to and not many people will even be interested in trading with the risk he comes with in the playoffs and the cap hit and the face he has 1 year on his deal and has shown in the past he will strong arm a team to get a bigger $? common man be realistic if nsh is interested and marner is willing to waive it would be a 1st + fabbro and maybe a conditional pick. u would never get fabbro + elite goalie + 3 full unprotected non conditional picks

Even assuming an extension for Marner, NSH declines. Assuming Trotz and Saros can't come to an agreement (but based on reporting today, it seems like they are close to a deal now), you wouldn't get all of those picks on top of Saros and Fabbro. At best you would get 1st alone, but more likely the 2nd.
It's pretty obvious that Marner is being shopped based on everything we have heard, and yes he is elite, but TOR the organization has the least leverage in this situation. With Marner's NMC, he controls who TOR can negotiate with entirely, and other GM's know that. They get to low ball TOR and there isn't much TOR can do about it because it's take a deal, resign Marner (which it's apparent they don't want to do), or let him walk for free next year.

That kind of thinking is why a Marner deal won’t happen. The ask needs to lower. You address a major issue and the deal essentially is for Saros, a pick, and whatever you do with the extra 6 million in cap space. How many more times should we “run it back?”. Anyone know the definition of insanity?

Im reading the return for Marner isn't there. His agent is a douchebag and always takes his players to FA. I think itl tank marners value as teams won't be able to extend him.
I'd be happy with this return because Saros is great and we need picks, but sad because he's obviously worth much more.

No problem. He’s $5 mil this year. Leafs have a ton of space next year to absorb the raise.

Team Canada - 4 Nations
Cirelli has been used to try to shutdown opposing team's top lines, but he's never reached 50 points in a season (Was on pace to reach 50 points during the covid paused season). There are players that can play that "shutdown" role and have better offensive upside. Cirelli was also a -6 this playoffs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>thestrongdadclub</b></div><div>It adds Cirelli to that slot. Who is a clearly superior defensive player to Thomas.</div></div>
Heh. He's so very not. Cirelli plays middle 6 matchups. Thomas played the hardest matchups of any forward in the NHL last season. And Thomas can actually keep the puck down in the other end, which is the best "defense" of all. At best, they're equal. And I'm not sure that's even the case. Don;t get me wrong, I like Cirelli quite a bit. But he's not on the level of Thomas as a player.

You’re comparing Ullmark to Brady? Yeah Boston traded Ullmark to ottawa but he was their backup and swayman is better and younger so if they believe swayman can out-duel Ullmark against ottawa they don’t care.
Brady is hella different . If they move him to Toronto, he’d haunt ottawa for a longtime
