Sorry Val See Ya Later
tbh i think we can just disregard any trades with Val in them if anything is coming the other way. Avs are at max getting a few mid picks for Val unless they're willing to wait it out until the TDL and he's looked good and healthy. In which case, might as well just keep him I guess. Just as risky as a trade

Guessing
these are the kinds of ACGMs that make me hope/think Trenin isn't back. $2mil for that position all season doesn't seem like smart cap management to me
If the Avs don't have any feeling that Landeskog is back to start the season by Free Agency, they should spend at least half of his cap, ideally all of it up to Nuke's salary. It's a good bet to believe only one player between Landy and Nuke will come back

I missed the retention. regardless, there's no way the Avs are trading a better player, 1.5mil savings or not, for a worse player. $4mil is a good number for 3C.

this is not true as far as we've been told. His cap only counts once reinstated.

They get a top nine winger and cap space plus another asset to help fill out their depth.</div></div>
Isn't Ross Colton just a better top 9 forward that's cheaper?

Probably Horrible But I mean what can we do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>M96N29</b></div><div>I'm starting to also wonder how attractive COL will be for FAs that aren't league minimum journeymen. If the selling point is "hey, come play for the Avs, at least until we have to dump you when Val or Landy comes back" then I don't know who would want to take that.</div></div>
IMO the Avs will play it relatively safe other than bringing drouin back this free agency period and maybe signing a ~$2mil depth defenseman. Maybe one other signing like Trenin or something like that. Otherwise, they'll go for journeymen and their current rookies to fill out the bottom 3 & bottom pairing. By the TDL they'll know who is and is not returning and can make moves there if they need to.
I would happily take big Z back if the Avs could make it work, though.

if you can get that for Laughton, you have to take it. It won't be the Avs, though. they have too crunched of a cap.

thank you. finally a normal Avs GM. i agree that the avs should just spend - do the vegas thing - and figure it out later.
i dont think the Avs should spend at 3rd pairing like that - IMO they should use Malinski and if that doesn't work, hit the market at the TDL.
And I don't think the Avs will do Kane but who knows. Landy probably would be better suited for 3rd line minutes next year, so I'm not opposed.

Mock
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JuanDamienNebraska</b></div><div>Yeah, though a contender, I don’t see COL bringing in Tanev. A resigning with DAL is much more likely.
Are you convinced that Manson will be dealt this summer? If Mittelstadt resigns, and Nichuskin and Landeskog are expected to return, I could see a cap crunched COL running something along the lines of:
Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Johnson - Malinski
Jones</div></div>
I am not at all convinced. But I would trade him if it means Tanev was the alternative. But, I don't think they trade any players until they hit some cap crunch if both Landy & Nichushkin are eligible to return.
Honestly, I think this team is capable as it is currently constructed to win another cup and don't see any reason to overreact at this time.

not to at all discount my own team - I think we are a contender - but wouldn't that just mean staying in dallas? seems easier for him.

do we not think Tanev has probably earned himself a bigger contract, either in term or AAV, based on these playoffs?
Like yes, Tanev > Manson for sure. Just not sure Tanev is only $5mil anymore.

he was a great PK "center" in that yes, he took faceoffs.
I'm much more pro-Trenin than Duhaime, who couldn't PK and basically was a faster Macdermid that was less willing to fight

yeah haha but like I am sorry how is it management's fault? Did I miss where CMac took a jackhammer to Landy's knee and introduced Nuke to drugs?
Are the Avs stuck in a tough spot going into free agency? kinda, yeah. How that is at all their fault is hilarious.

Guessing - hard to plan
i guess to clarify - Landeskog did not say he will not be ready to start the season. Landy himself said he intends to come back sometime between the preseason and april - I know this doesn't help THAT much at the free agency start but I think it's safe to assume he'll either come back earlier in the season (before the new year) or not at all.
I seriously, seriously doubt Nichushkin will just be scratched and not play if his cap is counting for the Avs. They're either going to give it a try or trade him if he were to be reinstated.

this is generally what I'd like to see the Avs do. Figure out the Nuke cap situation later when and if he is eligible to return.
I don't see a reason to bring back both Trenin and Duhaime, those kind of players are a dime a dozen at the TDL, and the WAR level is not high enough to make a difference in the regular season. I liked both. Trenin isn't a center - he was fine at it and can take a faceoff, but the Avs would be smart to start the season with one of their AHLers there - Wagner, Pavel, Ivan Ivan would all be fine. No hate on Trenin, would take him back as a winger and a 5th C option.

Things like math and salary cap aside: Avs simply have no interest in having two $10 million wingers. They want and need to spread out their cap more evenly than that.

Possibility - Val seeks help in Russia
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>M96N29</b></div><div>Anyone know how Val's NMC pertains to KHL loaning?</div></div>
i don't think his NMC is the first concern here. For one, i don't know if you can loan a player like this.
but if you can, and if the cap doesn't count against you, I still feel like the NHL would make sure Nuke was not eligible to come back for the playoffs in that same season. It makes Vegas' cap circumvention look like nothing.
IF and only IF any of that is true, then yes, I guess Nuke could waive his NMC to play abroad.
