Necas is the Target
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>I don't think the habs should pay to dump him either. They have other way worse cap dumps to worry about like Anderson and Gallagher. Save the assets for now and next offseason they might be able to unload one of those boat anchors and have dvorak come off the books. Then they could finally start building around all those young defenders</div></div>
I was hoping to start doing that now. There isn't a spot for him on this roster without him blocking a young guy and he clearly isn't a fit. But it's good to see how other teams fans view him. Guess we'll just have to suck it up for a year.

It’s harder to actually make those work and time them up which is why teams don’t do them that often. I just don’t see it happening and think there are easier deals to be made with direct value versus canes having to do extra leg work to find something that makes sense.
Utah, VAN, Philly off the top of my head make a lot of sense.</div></div>
Durzi, Hronek, or...?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>I wouldn’t. Again, that doesn’t really help the canes bc it’s solving a hole that doesn’t exist and then leaving them with less space than they had to solve the holes that still exist. I don’t think MTL and CAR make sense unless there’s a third team involved or CAR has a deal in place to immediately flip the futures they’d get in a MTL Necas deal for something they’ll actually need.</div></div>
So in that case the original deal is better. I'm assuming this would happen during the week of the draft, so you can flip the 26th overall pick + Mesar + Barron + whatever else you'd like into a top 4 RHD at the draft and keep Harris on your 3rd pair (at 1.4M) and Kovacevic as a 7D (at 750k) and I think Canes fans would really like both guys. Like Habs fans aren't eager to trade them, just have such a surplus at D right now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Or...
The Habs attach a 2nd to Dvorak and keep their two bottom of the roster players the Hawks don't want anyway. The Hawks will keep the late 2nd two years from now.</div></div>
I don't thinks the Habs will have to pay to dump Dvorak. He has one year left at around 4.5 mil. I used the Hawks as a placeholder team but I think one of SJS, CHI, UTH, could easily take him and flip him at the deadline. He's not a bad player but has been a terrible fit in MTL. A 2nd was obviously ambitious but one can hope since Bergevin gave up a 1st and 2nd for him (sigh)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>Don’t think the canes are going to move Necas in a deal for third pairing dmen and prospects/late firsts. In totality I’m sure the value is fine here but I’d bet the canes either keep Necas at this contract and give him top line minutes or trade him in a package to get a top 4 RD or a top 6 upgrade. Finding third pair dmen is easier than either of those.</div></div>
Would you prefer a deal centered around Mike Matheson? Even though he's a LHD? Something like Matheson+Barron+PIT 2nd (2025). I think the value is pretty similar but thought that Tulsky would like Harris and Kovacevic as they've had really good possession numbers together on a bad MTL team plus picks and prospects are good to have

This is not a very good offer, your cast off center, a mid prospect and a 1st that is late in the draft.
Start with a center like Suzicki and a better prospect and Fla picks and that might get Jets to pull trigger.</div></div> if the name suzuki comes up there is no trade lol. given the circumstates (dubois doesn't want to sign in wpg) I think my offer is fair

If MTL can't get more than a 2nd for Lehkonen we might as well keep him.
Also Petry is worth way more than a 2nd. He had 12 goals and 42 points in 55 games last season. Just because he requested a trade and is having a bad year doesn't mean we should trade him for way less than his value 6 months ago.
We should not need to retain on Drouin especially if we are trading him to Nashville. They have tons of cap space. If they want us to retain they should give us more than a 2nd
That is fair value for Chariot but hopefully we can get some other team to overpay for him.

Before this year Petry had 3 straight 40 point seasons. 2 of which were shortened seasons. He is much much better than Myers even if he is having a bad year.
Halak is 10 years older than Allen and we're not desperate for a goalie like they are.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>I'm not really a fan of Kravtsov's either, I don't see much potential in him, and his attitude makes him look like another Lias Andersson to me. He's just, well, meh.
I'm also a not a huge fan of spending massively to depth assets. Lehkonen, despite the fact that I like his game quite much (and just like me he's a Finn too), he's just exactly that. A depth asset. I just don't see depth assets warranting first rounders. Going through all trades involving first round picks in this decade, besides Tampa no one has moved first rounders for what was perceived as bottom-6 depth (or bottom-4 D-men). Tampa's dynasty is a such a special case in today's hockey, they're good enough to move higher picks to fill a specific need.
If Lehkonen is perceived to be worth more than, say a 2nd round pick and a meh prospect (like the usual depth players), MTL should just keep him. He's likely going to be worth more for you than anything you receive in a trade for him.</div></div>
That's how I'm looking at it. Until he started showing up in trade rumours with insiders saying that he could get us a 1st round pick, he was on my "players to keep list". I totally agree with you. I wouldn't want my team to spend a first round pick for a bottom 6 guy either but I wouldn't trade my guy for less...
Hopefully Kent Hughes has the same thought process

Your D prospect pool is pretty deep already so I figured he was a good target for MTL.
Plus I like the idea of reuniting Drouin and McKinnon (even if they most likely won't play on the same line)

Rebuild Time
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>Lehkonen is barely two years younger than Coleman was when he was traded. At 26 and 28 the age doesn't matter squat, they're basically at the same state of their career. Lehkonen being RFA is a plus, but not a massive one as his QO is still more expensive than Coleman's second year was, and a minority of contenders can afford paying $2,5M for bottom-6 players.
I'm not disputing Lehkonen's a good defensive asset, but he lacks the offensive prowess that would make him a top-6, or even a mid-6 asset worthy of a prospect+1st round pick. No contender would be able to pay that much for a 4th liner, which he'd most likely end up being in one of the teams with the strongest wingers in the entire league.
Plus if Kravtsov were as bad as you think he is, why would you even target the guy?</div></div>
I think Lehkonen has extra value because he is a proven playoff performer after the cup finals run last season where he played an important role on MTL's shutdown line with Danault and Gallageher where he was playing almost 20 minutes a night (not 4th line minutes). Plus the fact that he will be under team control after this season should increase his value. I think you may also be valuing Kravstov higher than me. His value has dropped significantly IMO because of the trade request and the rumored locker room problems he creates. His skill on the ice is why MTL would still want him.

He hasn't scored 21 goals in one of the weakest teams in the league before getting traded. He's managed one third of that
He's not able to play center unlike Coleman was.
What similarities do these guys even have?
NSH, COL, EDM and LA decline too. None of these players they're getting warrant top prospects and a pick in return.</div></div>
And Kravstov isn't Nolan Foote. He is a locker room disaster who requested a trade out of New York. Plus Lehkonen is significantly younger, is an RFA and is one of the best penalty killers in the league
