Why not? They're getting the 2017 - 7th OA (Andersson) pick back.
Not all first round picks are stars and there is no guarantee that the Canucks 2026 first will ever make the NHL.
But what they will get is money to help sign Necas.

My game 5 lines
Looks good as long as the 4th line gets very limited minutes. I don't think Friedman gets enough credit for his role in keeping the Canucks hot when Soucy was injured early in the season.

Jimbo Wants Marner
Hronek is far more important to the Canucks than Marner ever would be. A quality RHD is hard to find and the I really doubt that Canucks management would rather pay more for a RW.
Marner is worth $11MM ONLY to to the Leafs.
The Canucks are paying their 100 point player (Miller) $8MM/yr. That is the ABSOLUTE maximum Marner is worth.

Game 3 lineup
I agree that Cole needs to sit. Friedman or Juulsen couldn't be any worse. I don't think Friedman gets enough credit for his contributions to the team's success early in the season when Soucy was injured.
I would scratch PDG before Mikheyev. I marvel at how NONE of Mik's chances ever go in. Just by the law of averages one would think that one of his shots would bounce in.
I don't know how Tocchet figures that PDG deserves to play over Hoglander but I guess he has his favourites and his whipping boys too.

Maybe Demko can stay healthy in Leafland. He's no use to the Canucks if he's not available when they need him most.

Canucks neither need nor do they want Marner, unless he is about 70% retained, without the Canucks paying any assets to a third party.
He might be worth $3MM/year to the Canucks but certainly not much more.</div></div>

Marner
The Canucks need Hronek a helluva a lot more than they need Marner.
They also need the minimum $2.9MM cap space in the salary difference.
Marner and Tavares are Toronto boys who have dreamed of playing for the Leafs their whole lives, They are unlikely to waive their NMCs.
Though highly unlikely, Matthews and Nylander are more likely trade candidates.

Seen Petey miss the empty net several times this season.
Sissons is a very reliable RH 3C which the Canucks will need when they don't resign Lindholm. He plays both on the PP and PK.
Fabbro is decent RHD who has been paired with Josi at times this season. He can play in any defensive pairing.
ANY draft pick especially a late one is just a crap shoot, and I would rather give up PDG than Aman.

Lets bench Tocchet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tmclean64</b></div><div>
This is why people hate Canucks fans.. lol. Really?
You actually think the Tocc wants this group to lose?
Please explain this.</div></div>
Why would anyone hate Canucks fans? Except for those embarassing minor incidents, in 1972 and 2011, Canucks are among the most lovable fans in the league
It's not that these coaches WANT to lose but some definitely seem willing to sit players based on how they expect them to perform. Some would sit their best player because he missed a checking assignment and lose the game. This may be okay during the regular season but it definitely isn't during the playoffs. The playoffs shouldn't be used as a "teaching moment".
How does Hoglander rate less TOI than Lafferty and just 5 seconds more than PDG? These players aren't even near as good as Hoggy. He should be playing on the first or second line.
The team is having trouble scoring, so how does playing the player who scored the 4th most goals (8th most points) for the team for less than 10 minutes help?
I get that MAYBE Tocchet got cocky and thought he could play a some what inferior lineup but with Demko missing, the Canucks need their best possible lineup and the best possible line combinations.
Pulling names out of a hat and throwing them together because a line had a bad shift is poor coaching.
Maybe Tocchet is just as nervous as the players?

Pettersson's talent is wasted playing with AHLers like Lafferty or PDG. Petey is one of the most creative set-up men in the NHL but playing him with players that have NO finish is a poor decision.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CM_Insane</b></div><div>They play enough together keep them split so the team is harder to play against at 5v5. Trailing late in the game put em together.</div></div>
Could it be that the reason they are trailing late in the game is because they were split up?
Playing catch-up hockey is hard and it isn't any fun. It's also not a recipe for success.
The Lotto Line is a true #1 line.
Hoglander - Lindholm - Mikheyev seems a reasonable combination of offense and defense.
Joshua - Blueger - Garland was perhaps the best 3rd line in the league for quite a while this season.
I have to admit that I'm not thrilled with that 4th line but with limited ice time they shouldn't hurt the team. PDG and Lafferty will have to be replaced next season, perhaps Suter too.
