Is ANA going to make a big splash in Free Agency? They're letting a bunch of higher-paid players go and 4th line money for 3 years doesn't warrant a crazy return in my opinion...

I knew he was injured but unaware he was expecting a kid - makes more sense for CHI to not move him then. Thanks for the heads-up.

Savard isn't good and he's actually become more of an OFD than DFD, though odd that sounds. Either way, if I'm MTL - I would accept and run.

What about this version 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FireShanahanTrelivingKeefe</b></div><div>On what planet is Brodie better then Borgen? Brodie can NOT play on the right side, he is a left defense and everyone else but Keefe and you knows this.
Brodie is 100% more physical and exactly the partner Rielly needs so you pay for it and plus Borgen has term cheap.
Look up Bogosian stats a true stay at home physical defender exactly what we need for playoffs plus he was already a TML so we know what he brings!Yes his physicality has come down but stilla solid 3rd liner or depth if you use Giordano.</div></div>
This logic just screams that you don't watch Seattle - but their hit totals is all you care about. Brodie doesn't hit but he defends in other ways and while he is having a down-year he is still a top-4 defenseman and it makes no sense to trade him. I like Borgen and I would want him on our team but at the expense of giving up roster players instead of prospects and picks? It makes no sense. Bogosian statistics are ass so I don't know what you're getting at. We literally watched him in the bubble and he wasn't this stay-at-home defenseman at all. Did we get past the first round that year when we had Bogo in the lineup?

While Robertson is worth a second - I don't know if he's worth a late one.
I would really like Oleksiak but not in the expense of a RHD on our top-4. Trade with prospects and picks only.

The team got worse:
1. You gave a top-4 veteran defenseman not only to a team that doesn't need one; but for a 4th rounder?
2. Bogosian is not the gritty defenseman you think he is and he's not even better than Timmins.
3. I don't mind acquiring Borgen but you massively overpaid. Liljegren is a top-4 as well so what's the point?
4. The Duclair one is alright.

WSH trade makes no sense. Why would the Leafs give up a top-4 right-hander for a top-4 left-hander?...With picks on top of that? It's so backwards.

RHD Trade Targets

I actually think it's the other way around, haha. Adam Larsson was an amazing DFD a few seasons ago but lately he's been on a decline and struggling regardless of how many minutes he's been given in SEA. Connor Murphy in my opinion is better but that injury he has right now makes him a question mark; but I'd still take him over Larsson and retaining him even at 35% is a win for TOR.

Carrier no need for him. Third pair and undersized
Tanev = ideal target but CGY asking for a lot
Walker = undersized and PHI in playoff spot
Murphy is the big ?. Hes not having himself a season but if CHI was willing to do what they did with McCabe it could get interesting at 2.2m.
My personal ideal target = Adam Larsson</div></div>
I'd rather have Murphy over Larsson in my honest opinion. Fair assessments on everything else.

Larsson and Borgen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brad_Treliving</b></div><div>I could care less what his analytics are and what the calculators say. He hits, he can fight, and he can defend from the eye test. There is a reason why calculator boy Dubas failed as GM here in Toronto</div></div>
We can ignore analytics if you want, it doesn't matter - and Dubas made terrible moves that had nothing to do with analytics. Your reasoning here has no credibility and just blatantly proves my point that if even a rock would hit and fight you'd give up a first for it. Your supposed "eye-test" was either from previous seasons or you just made that up, because most honest SEA fans will tell you straight-up how he's doing; if you watched him play this season you'd know he's struggling and the odds of him getting back to form on a new team is too risky.

Larsson and Borgen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brad_Treliving</b></div><div>Wrong on Larsson, analytics is useless (Dubas doesn't run this team anymore). Grit and heart wins cups, numbers and calculators wins participation and regular season awards. As for Larsson, he's strong and physical and if ever available, teams will be lining up
As for Brodie, he's soft and can't defend hence why Dubas signed him and Tre let him walk as quickly as possible from CGY. Leafs aren't missing much by trading Brodie</div></div>
Analytics aren't useless but they should be factored in with the eye-test. Also, Dubas made several moves that made no sense analytically so you're wrong on that too. Grit and heart indeed wins championships, but you also need to be good at hockey. Larsson has grit but his lack of impact negates that. Brodie defends in other ways and reduces chances better than Larsson. If you want someone with grit and actual good defense, you have players like Connor Murphy, Oleksiak, etc. My point isn't that we don't acquire grit, my problem with your take is that you just go for anyone and anything that hits.

Hal, I'm curious to see that if the Leafs do keep their 1st this year (I'm not opposed to it at all): Which prospect do the Leafs draft? I have no clue how strong this draft class is and I've heard talks that there is no bonafide first overall and it is all over the place. I understand our pick will be around the #21-23 mark; any good prospects out there that will be coming up late in the 1st?

Larsson and Borgen
Borgen is a good Top-6 defenseman - Larsson on the other hand, washed and overrated by Leafs fans. Literally go ask SEA fans how well he's been doing this season, I don't blame them for trying to upsell him if teams are stupid enough to give up a first. Plus, his analytics are ****. Also, what's the point of this trade for TOR if they're just going to give up a top-4 defenseman in Brodie?

Genuinely don't understand the Brodie hate either. Arguably our best DFD we've had in recent years and he has a down-year this season most likely due to personal problems of his own that I won't dig further out of respect. Leafs fans want a defenseman that either hits, is taller than 6'3, or someone who racks up points - all flashiness and bravado and have zero respect to the guys that hold it down and aren't in the highlight reels but do all the work no one seems to care about (decision making, stick checking, positioning, etc).
