Ferland, Kesler, Boychuck all LTIR picks. With the pandemic some of these tams might look to shed contracts to a team like Vegas, maybe give up another middle asset (not to the extent Vegas got) as Seattle could be a cap floor team and able to afford 3-4 guys on LTIR.

I agree with your pov re asset management. We disagree with how to do that.</div></div>
Hutton = more contract numbers than contract dump. Now if the Canucks move on from Edler, then yes resign Hutton I agree. However I don't see the point in bringing back Edler and Hutton, cause then you're going to lose a guy like Sautner or Brisebois through waivers unless you look to move one of those guys.
By trading Hutton with Sutter, you're not getting as good as a return, however you are getting a former 1st round pick who could slide into a 4th line centreman role in a few years.

Gilly come back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sedin33</b></div><div>I don't know that your team is better than the Canucks right now. You bleed value in your Hutton & Tanev trades. Signing Myers to that contract is classic Benning not Gilly.
I'd rather keep Tanev one more year and lose him for nothing than that trade + Meyers signing.</div></div>
The idea is that this team is 5 years into a Benning rebuild, and there is no way to make this team better for next year under the current circumstances. So I agree that this team is bad on paper, but on the outlook there is room to leave space for upcoming prospects. These trades are more about ridding of contracts than getting maximized value. Like I said, the issue isn't TDL and the Draft, Benning has done okay drafting, but come July 1st he signs outrageous contracts that just handcuff the team. Asset management Is now the issue, not developing a prospect pool.

Schaller, Motte, Beagle have a combined 82 years of age, 10 goals, 149 games and -23 (the analytics are even worse but I'm not gonna get into that)... do not try to tell me Boucher would worsen that cause

I think neither will be with the team for next season, however I would assume granlund is easier to trade at TDL and Sutter in the summer.

Ya gaudette is definitely ready for the NHL but Sutter still have some value, I bet if he was placed on waivers a team would claim him, but making a trade will be difficult. I'd still take Sutter over granlund in the short term. Definitely DO NOT resign granlund.

It was reported that CBJ was also contemplating taking Puljarvi, and if so then Sergachev was EDM's guy. If Dubois was available at 5, Subban was going to VAN for 5th overall which MTL would have selected Dubois, as Dubois was #1 on MTL list. But the price to move up to #3 was much higher than the price to select at 5. Thats what this re-do was about.

well I bet less than 0.5% of all trades on CapFriendly have been actual NHL trades so in theory both clubs say no, I agree. Sutter isn't trash he's just on a bad team with the young players having a helluva season and TG getting the most outta his squad.

it's not just a cap dump, its also 2 more years than Sutter/guddy at a high cap hit. I know EDM wants more leadership and a larger locker room presence and Sutter is a local boy who can still play good puck as a bottom 6 centre, its just a thought I have had.

More Trades
I really do think the Baertschi-Maaa trade is a fair trade and something VAN would seriously entertain, the problem is Sven has a bad concussion right now and who knows if he'll be the same player going forward. Juolevi/Hughes/Maata on the left side in VAN would be a nice core left side moving forward.

TOR will not be able to resign Kapanen for what he's going to want, Simmonds will be a veteran rental player that comes at the cost of Brown and Kapanen. I think the player trade-off is good value, picks would adjust whatever other value Which is why I agree with you. Why wouldn't you add a proven veteran for a playoff run, cause we all know that once Matthews and Marner sign monster contracts, its going to be kind of difficult and I think it's hard to argue that.

Brown instead of Hyman could work thats fair. I don't think VAN retains Tanev salary, only because it seems like the extra year of Tanev would replace Hainsey's contract. And thats incentive for TOR to not overspend (i.e., Zaitsev)

Look at Breadman part 2 before you rip into this (also a 2020 first round pick; I'm not that crazy). This would be at this trade deadline, part 2 would be to start the season.
