Who Says No
If they develop and wait for a few more seasons, half the guys they have now won't have any value. That's my worry now. Just not enough roles available. They could always add more prospects to something like this. I think they should be willing to trade anybody not named Werenski or Fantilli

Returns for Nylander
I would really expect the Leafs to have to take on quite a bit of cap back. Whoever trades for him will have plans to sign him and will need cap space. I don't think that he will get nearly as much of a return as people expect because there will be some other good UFAs that year who will cost a similar amount. It will be interesting to see the return compared to Lindholm

I mean Schmaltz is great. It's going to be tough to move a bunch of guys that we can't get into our lineup for anything of real value. I just feel like this lineup in incomplete without one more hard hitting guy

I honestly don't think Roslovic will get any return at this point. Maybe if the Jackets retain salary on him they could get something. Seeing how teams are trying to bail out of all these contracts I just don't see it. Even the guys signed only a year. Hope I'm wrong. Like Yammamoto only had a year left on his contract at a lower cap hit. Detroit is buying him out, if there was a market for him they'd probably get something. I feel like it'll be similar for Roslovic

Lets Try A Lindholm Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>I'd rather hold on to Sillinger at this point than chase Lindholm. Both the trade cost and contract cost pretty much make adding Lindholm an almost guaranteed poor choice long term.</div></div>
I see where you're coming from. If you make this trade you don't have to worry about acquiring a top 6 center for the next 8 years. Until the Jackets find one playoff success feels unlikely to me. If Jarmo can make it happen and make the cap work I think he will try. If he can't make the cap work I agree it shouldn't happen. I feel like they're more inclined to make a move like this because Gaudreau is only getting older. Sillinger probably won't be a 50-60 pt guy for another few years. With all the young wings I think it might be good to have a vet in the middle to balance it out

Fantilliplan - Roslovic Kept
I think the logic is sound but I don't think they're going to give a guy (Compher) that kind of contract unless he's an absolute lock in the top 6. Just can't be paying a 3rd line guy 5.7 mil when you already have Gudbrandson getting 4 mil. I have a feeling they could get a "free center" similar to the Johansen deal or maybe they bring in a guy like Josh Bailey at a lower cap hit. With Marchenko and Johnson getting likely top 6 money in the not-so-distant future that extra cap cushion is really important

ROR 1 C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Mind</b></div><div>That would be great if it comes true, but that is a pretty big assumption to make and a lot of money to risk on it. I think ROR's market value right now is probably closer to $5m on a 3-4 year contract, so I'd be fine with paying him $7 if it comes at a 3 year term or less. He may not go for that, but who knows.
$7m x 2 or 3 years would be a great bridge for Carlsson or Smith to come in and Sillinger to develop. 4 or 5 years is just too long.</div></div>
I would much rather pay him less. I didn't really research comparable deals and numbers. I kinda just took 5 seconds and guessed. That would be way better. I like the Hayes term. 3 or less is definitely better. I feel like this is a better route than moving assets for somebody else. That way they can really go all in on some defenders

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Mind</b></div><div>I'd love ROR, but that term... eesh. That deal will age worse than Gudbranson.
Why not would be because they're going to have to re-sign Johnson, Marchenko, Sillinger, Chinakov, Jiricek and this year's top pick all in the next 3 years.</div></div>
Yeah, I just keep looking at Bergeron and how well he's been playing at his age. I was hopeful he would still be solid. Feels like a big upgrade over a guy like Hayes and no assets are given up for him. Not all those guys will end up being owed big money but some will command it for sure.

Off-Season If We Lose The Lottery and Random Thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>I think it’s smart if you retain to move older players for a better return or to just open up spots for younger players and give those older guys a better chance at the cup, but it’s rare. This is way more logical than a buyout IMO. Always thought the wild should have retained 50% on Suter and moved him to Dallas for future considerations, the contract Dallas gave him was essentially 50% of what he was making with the wild and that would have given the wild a better cap structure and he would have been off the books much faster.</div></div>
Do you think the Sharks will end up doing something like that with EK?? That would be fun

Yeah, I feel like 33% retention is more likely and I'm sure there will be an extra pick or something in there. What do you think it would realistically take?

I think his value is just going to keep going down similar to how Bean's has. He can't stay healthy and he's not physical. I think his value is a lot lower than people might think

Yeah, I'd rather have Girard though, I like the 4 more years before UFA as opposed to 2. I think the Jarmo would like to use that 1st. He's said time and time again he isn't going to make a big move for a guy who will be gone in a couple years. We don't need Panarin 2.0 and I don't think that Chychrun make the Jackets a contender right away so why take the risk and make it a 2 year window? I feel like 4 years fits the bill a bit better

yeah we're hoping Bean or Blankenburg can be that guy.. and maybe they can but may as well use the assets we've got to upgrade. No sense in waiting and I think it fits what Colorado needs to do cap wise

Deadline But All Predictions Are Wrong
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>The problem we have with Casey, imo, is that he can't handle a large workload and Jarry's injuries have made him play a larger role than he has in most previous seasons. I'm not sure if Korpisalo is even much of an improvement over DeSmith, if at all, but it's a cheap enough rental that it couldn't hurt (assuming we had the cap space).
Not sure about Edmonton. I'm not high on Gavrikov but if the market says 1st, they might get desperate and bite, and it's clear EDM has had it with Puljujarvi. Isn't Nyqvist out for the season, though?</div></div>
I am still figuring out how to respond on here
So it's looking like Nyquist will be ready for the playoffs and probably before the end of the regular season. It was initially reported he was out indefinitely and everybody just assumed full season but I don't think that's the case anymore. If healthy I think Nyquist commands a 2nd+ but with his injury he would be a great option for one of these teams that will make the playoffs comfortably and they can get him at a discount.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Civil_Eng_PE</b></div><div>For Item 7, I do not see us "weaponizing" cap space for picks, we are now in win now mode after this season. Any picks we would get for 2024 or 2025 would miss our window IMO.
I agree with everything else. Gus and Gavi love Columbus and I really hope they are with this team after this season. Maybe we trade them and then hope they comeback in FA.[/quote]
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>I do agree that you shouldn't be weaponizing cap space this season and I'm not sure any big changes are needed. This season ended up this way because of chemistry followed by injury. You throw in a player like Gaudreau and it's going to take time for displaced players to find their new role and then Werenski Columbus's best player get hurt. Look at Ottawa they were struggling until recently with the changes they made and both Calgary and Florida still don't have things all worked out.
When weaponizing cap I was more-so thinking about the Jackets acting as a team that would help hold back cap on rentals. For example, maybe Patrick Kane get's moved and the jackets take a quarter of it or half of it. Something like that. Nothing long term like what Arizona has done</div></div></div></div>
