Looking to Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>Doubt they give up on him this quickly. Dumping a guy you gave a first for like this looks pretty bad. I think they give him one more year to see if he can figure out where to be defensively on a consistent basis. If he can’t, I could see him going on waivers. Salvaging a fifth just seems like a walk of shame. Maybe he can go to Pitt for a few seasons and come back a better player like Oleksiak did lmao</div></div>
Part of this too is making room for Bichsel. Bichsel hated playing in the AHL and went to Europe for the season as was his option. I think Dallas will feel some pressure to keep him happy and wouldn't be surprised if he is on the NHL roster next year. He has the body for it, and playing with a vet like Suter for a season would be incredibly beneficial for his game. I think they're done with Lundqvist. So many mental mistakes. They've been waiting for him to breakout for 3 years now. Going to a place where he can afford to make mistakes like SJ would be a good change of scenery for him.

No he’s UFA. Wouldn’t be surprised if he retires. He's looked absolutely gassed the last 3 months. Hoping for a Cup run so he can ride off in the sunset as he deserves

Watch out for the Pens fans that think they're getting a haul for Gentzel. TDL deals are always underwhelming. I think this is a good return for Pittsburgh.

For Those Wanting Jake
I think you should prepare yourself for disappointment. Pens need to move him or he will walk. They can’t afford him otherwise. He will likely get a 1st but I don’t think any high end prospects along with it. There aren’t a lot of teams with 1sts, the ability to absorb his salary and the need for a high end rental. I agree with above, the trade deadline market never yields a big return. You can dispute that all you want; Dubas doesn’t have the leverage here and the other GM’s know it.

Word is Seguin is going on LTIR. If that happens they need a center stat and why not use that cap space to add a major piece?

I think you all are overestimating the amount of teams that will be willing to cough up a 1st for a rental. The trade deadline market is never as robust as everyone thinks it will be. Middelstedt I'll give you is probably a bit low given his RFA status. I imagine the Guentzel market for a year will not be what the public thinks it should be.

Hayes just got moved for a 6th with 50% retention. Sharks fans need to prepare for what they get back in a Karlsson deal. He basically dictates where he is willing to go, and the Sharks have to oblige that.

Arizona isn't retaining 20 on Karlsson, they'd be retaining 10. And right now they're so below the cap they honestly have to pick up some awful contracts just to hit the floor.

They've been trying to move Karlsson for 2 years and the only reason they can't is because they refuse to retain. I'm not saying a 1st here, but I don't think Dallas would be the one paying to manage SJ's books. Dallas will only care about the overall retention, and if SJ wants to go another route to get that number down on their books, that's the only way to do it. Either way, I'm not talking a 1st here.

My thought is the 2nd is likely to take the Marchment contract. You have to move him or Faksa for a deal to work. Would much prefer to move the worse player on a higher dollar and term, but that costs you.

And when did Marchment become a cap dump?</div></div>
Grushnikov is a good player, and is more in line with the young core they're about to develop. Also he's cheaper. The Hakanpaa is a cap dump. He only has 1 year left at low dollars, so not worth too much. Marchment became a cap dump around Halloween. He's terrible and he's locked up for 3 more years. Convincing a team to take his contract is not going to be easy.

1. He doesn't. He's a replacement level player at best.
2. He has 3 years left on his deal. Asking a team to take on that contract will require some decent comp.

I'm keeping Delly at this point. He is the future captain of this team. I would think AZ would be insistent on a top level prospect, and I think Stankoven is a no-deal caliber prospect. This team has a log jam at C the next 5 years so I thought Bourque was the best fit.

My thought was that I imagine AZ is on both NMC lists. Dobby is the best salary dump they can do without a trade block. And scratching Suter is my call hahaha. It doesn't' change the cap figure at all.

St Louis losing Husso is a big deal. Binnington was pretty great in the playoffs, but was flat out awful all year prior to that. Perron also leaving is a large hole in their forward group. I don't think they put up 109 points again.
