For those doubting a Jones offersheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ColumbusKyle</b></div><div><i>Can still get more than a 7th for Hartnell. He's still valued in the league. Tyutin will be bought out so that opens up cap space and Boll possibly as well. Jackets still need to get better down the middle and there are options out there for the Jackets to get creative.</i></div></div>
Dunno about that. He's still a good player but his long NMC contract brings a lot of risk. If there's an expansion draft. that's also going to bring his value way down.

If Jack Johnson can play on the right side, I think the Jackets would be smart to make a pitch for RNH with a package centered around Savard ++.</i></div></div>
That's an absolutely terrible deal for EDM no matter who ++ is.

James Van Reimsdyke trade?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jarrett18</b></div><div><i>Lucic was traded at the draft for Miller, Martin Jones, and the 13th pick, and he had one year left on his contract. I would expect a similar return for JVR. I don't see the Bruins dealing a defenseman either way.</i></div></div>
That trade seemed like a massive overpay, but I think you're right that I'm underselling JVR. They don't seem to have a 3rd NHL right handed defencemen under contract right now, so they're likely planning on keeping Colin Miller. Maybe swap him for Malcolm Subban or a 2nd rounder or something

James Van Reimsdyke trade?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Halla</b></div><div><i>trade would entirely depend on if they can get bean at 14, otherwise not enough of a return. habs pick 9 could net us chychrun/sergachev</i></div></div>
There's not a lot of evidence to suggest that Bean >> than other players in that range. Even looking at it from an organizational standpoint, the Leafs don't really need another left handed D right now, although if Sergachev fell I'd be interested.
Keller has cleanly outperformed every other player coming out of the USHL and USDP this year, and is one of the top 5 historically from those leagues. Yes he's smaller than his peers, but height has virtually no bearing on the expected PPG of players that make it to the NHL while point production does. He looks like he's going to be massively undervalued on draft day.
If the Canadiens/Devils/Avalanche are willing to trade their pick this year, that'd work too.

More of the same
"No point playing prospects in the bottom 6 when they can get big minutes in the minors...slow and steady is the Babcock-Lamorello way. "
When they get to 23-24 and have no NHL experience, they aren't prospects - they're career AHLers. According to the typical aging performance curves, they're virtually done developing by this time. We don't want more marginal talent coming from UFA, we want to give our prospects a shot to sink or swim. That means Smith, Carrick, Soshnikov, Hyman, Leivo, Harrington, Brown, Leipsic and Percy should have some possibility of earning a roster spot. Otherwise whats the point of keeping them?

Leafs Roster Attempt no.4859
To clarify somethings, Greening is a really old dude and a recent salary dump
I'm not sure we'd be able to move him to NJ + a 6th straightup

There's not really much point in signing paraenteau if he can't play at the very least top 9.
That's also a huge underpay for Scott Wedgewood.
Bozak is probably going if we manage to sign Stamkos. We'll have waay too many centers
I really don't think that WPG is going to accept that for Trouba

Leafs 2016-17: Stamkos, Vessey, trades - ANA, CHI, CLB, ARZ
"As a Toronto resident sometimes, but not too far away regularly, I can....."
not relevant
"The Toronto media throws "softball" questions to their players, so the media will not alienate themselves from the team. Now social networking especially in the last season was split about three ways on Kessel, but really it wasn't personal attacks but comments on his ridiculously poor overall play. "
I wouldn't call fabricating hot dog stories and incessant personal attacks on his character "softballs." I also wouldn't call being 6th in points among all NHLers "ridiculously poor overall play."
Kessel was hated by the media and fans for a few main reasons :
1. Toronto sucked really really bad during his entire time here
2. We traded the 2nd, 9th and 30 somethingst overall for him
3. He's awkward and not a good quote.
People are pretty bad at separating ability from narratives and Phil Kessel is a prime example of this.
"My last thought on Kessel. Not to often a 27 year old profession athlete "gets it" but IMO that what happened to Phil. Half way through this season and the playoffs, it's like, work harder, smarter and then you win more, man this more fun than losing."
Halfway through the season is exactly when they switched coaches. Its not a coincidence

As not great as Bozak is, Savard is much worse. The Leafs would be better buying him out.
Shaw is also hella overrated for being a Blackhawk. We have enough NHL ready depth players as it is, we don't need more.

Letting Stamkos Walk
These trades are pretty one sided towards Tampa. You're going have to package a good draft pick if you want to get rid of Carle

money money
Couple points:
You should let Brian Boyle walk, he's not worth the money.
Drouin is sure to be offersheeted at 3 million (2nd draft pick comp). If you give him 3.5 million that is more realistic (1st and 3rd round pick compensation)
You shouldn't have to pay your goalies 10 million - either Bishop likely walks as a free agent and vasilevski shows Tampa he's their guy OR Vasilevski flames out and you pay Bishop the big bucks
If Tampa can shed a bad contract for a 2nd round pick, it should seriously consider doing so - it might let them keep stamkos

Stamkos signing in Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafatic</b></div><div><i>
You do realize that gauthier may never be a top 6 forward but coaches love him and his defensive mindset. Think Kris Draper never will come close to leading the team in scoring but could easily be the best defensive center in the game.</i></div></div>
You do realize overvaluing bottom six players and marginal talent has lead to some horrendous contracts in the last few years alone (see Clarkson, David). Detroit's success wasn't built on Kris Draper; it came from Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidstrom, Brendan Shanahan, Sergei Fedorov, Paul Coffey and the other stars of their dynasty years.

Stamkos signing in Toronto
Waivers will take Harrington, Leivo, Smith and Percy next season if we don't send them somewhere. Also after they hit 23-24 (which many of them are close to doing) they start to be considered career AHLers.
Liepsic is sent away because he's vulnerable in the expansion draft, his profile is very similar to Andreas Johnson and barring significant changes there are no spots open on the left side. If you want you could take him out of the trade and put in a 2nd rounder instead. I don't like Gauthier so I included him...
The other trades are mostly throwaways to make room for roster spots. Holland and Bozak are imminently replaceable. The point of this roster is basically to scrape by and maybe slide into playoffs or draft in the top 10. The next steps are to acquire a top flight goaltender and RHD prior to the expansion draft.

I agree with Jarrett18. There's little sense in trading Matthews for Detroits offensive depth prospects + Larkin.
