Realistic team plenty of room for UFAs and defence trade chips
Or... could take on some bad contracts with 1st rounders and/or high level prospects: Like Fleury (1st and a 2nd) from VGK, Anderson from TM (first and Lilgegren, Erikkson from VAN (like Gaudette Virtanen and Miller type deal) Lucic for a first and Mangiapane etc.... every team has a ****e contract or 2. Send back 6th or 7th round picks

Now sign RNH 7x7, Dzingel 3.0x2, Hyman 3.0x2, Sutter 1.25x2, Perry 1.25x1, Larsen 3.5x3. Trade 2 of your dmen for 2 premium top 6 guys and just like that instant contender with amazing youth coming up. Last step add a UFA goalie if needed or trade a prospect for same.

Really cool imaginary team! I think this could be a Cup winning dynasty team in a couple of years once the D matures.

REVERSE ALL TRADES AND SIGNINGS IN THE LAST 15 YEARS
I like this exercise but there's no way the team would have been bad enough for the run of Marner/Nylander/Matthews if they had've not tanked for a few years.

These aren't actual trades... just a manner of getting originally drafted Canucks back. It's in my team description above. Like JT Miller for Tanev seemed plausible?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Penguins21</b></div><div>McCann is under such a good contract he just signed. And is a better scorer than Sutter. Especially now, he’s just gonna play on the wing where he belongs. Cause he’s a scorer, not a play-maker at center.
But I think the Pens would take Sutter for McCann. They cant afford Myers at 6M per year for 4 more years(although we do need his toughness). And can’t afford Holty as a back-up(And to just to get selected away by Seattle in the expansion draft anyways).</div></div>
You get that these are not actual trades right? Just resetting the players back to the Canucks. It's in the team description. The only reason any team may have been selected was to get a drafted Canuck back.

Lets Use our Cap Space for the Future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigShoots</b></div><div>Are you daft? You think Podkolzin is worth 3 million in retained cap hit?</div></div>
Canucks have a cap hell situation. In no particular order, Erikkson, Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, Benn, Myers. Plus still paying out on Luongo and Spooner. If they want to win in their window it'll take sacrifcing the future a bit. Can't keep signing 3rd and 4th liners to top line $$. They need to move 1 or 2 of these guys and they will need to massively retain OR give up a premium prospect... It sucks but that's the way it is and the low spending teams are in a buyers market. The only other team in as bad shape as Vancouver is the Lightning but they at least have a cup... and maybe the Leafs but thats due to chronic mismanagement just like Vancouver.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigShoots</b></div><div>Why would the Canucks retain on Eriksson and why would Detroit want them too?</div></div>
Eriksson is an anchor of a contract especially for a marginal 4th liner, so retaining some of it makes it possible for a trade. At minimum he will cost a first, but also taking on Sutter's contract in this hypothetical deal so it's going to cost Canucks something?? Maybe if no retention, throw in Podkolzin?

Kerfoot and Holl both pretty much overpaid and overvalued by Leafs nation. It costs picks to move contracts like these.

2020 Canucks - TBL OTT MIN deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>But my point is that Ottawa needs the roster spots for this one year more than they would need DiPietro going forward. It's a wasted season anyway in the sense that they're not going to be good, so why would they waste it further by playing Sven Baertschi instead of finding out what you have in a prospect like Rudolfs Balcers or Filip Chlapik ahead of the Seattle expansion draft. Also I don't think either player is better than the players can fill internally, there may be an argument they're better than the Zaitsevs or the Watsons, but they aren't pushing those guys out of a spot to begin with.</div></div>
For what its worth... they may not even play a season because of Covid… but yes, I totally see your point. Just trying to creatively dump cap space on your team.

It could be a 7th, or a bag of pucks, or futures that never get paid out. Cap relief and everyone else in deal has only 1 year left on their deals. Plus they are better than much of what OTT can play.

That would be a much easier buyout for VAN to take on and I feel like the Penguins could easily find a taker on Johnson if he’s packaged with Rust or Jarry.</div></div>
I think Benning would be fired and or run out of town if he brought EG back for even a day! Who knows, maybe Johnson could work out here.

PIT swap
Johnson 4 years at 3.5 for Eriksson 3 years at 5.0 (if Van retains 1m) is almost a saw-off, maybe theres another 1-2 million cap dump on the Pens plus Goldobin could likely be signed for closer to 1.0 if he knew that Malkin was his new C? I think Canucks would buyout Johnson soon after seeing him play the same hockey as Gudbranson did!
