Why Are You Guys Trying To Compete
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>I don't think they're trying to compete. I think they're trying to get Ovechkin to 895. That is the only goal for this franchise right now. If they can get him there while finishing dead last in the NHL, I think they'd do that.
Once they get him there, they'll blow up the team and start a rebuild.</div></div>
I think trading a 2nd for 1x5.8 of Mangiapane signals compete. I wasn't expecting them to blow it up but to take steps like that, and the Dubois trade after having two great back to back deadlines, was odd to me.

I have no idea what they want for Necas nowadays. They probably want to keep him with Guentzel gone but I think the bridge is burned. Probably something they can flip for a controllable/extendable 2nd liner but who fits that description on the open block?

Final Kings Prediction

Necas PPG Career: (.67)
PLD Playoffs PPG: (.63)
Necas PPG Playoffs: (.51)</div></div>
2.44 vs 2.29 regular season P/60, not to mention Dubois has seen more PP time throughout the duration of his career. You're posting numbers just to post them. Razor thin margins with no context to account for Necas getting less ice time. Even if the PPG numbers were true over equal ice time, a 1st and someone in Kaliyev who likely fetches a 3rd on his own is nothing compared to a 2nd, a middle 6er on a 2x4 and someone in Vilardi who was within 0.3 P/60 of Dubois in 22-23, took less penalties, was better defensively and had more room to grow. That was a bad trade at the time of announcement. This wouldn't be.

Final Kings Prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Artman91</b></div><div>I hope you're wrong. This is a Dubios 2.0 waiting to happen.</div></div>
I disagree. Every team with the opportunity to give Necas 7.5 long term would do it. He has better career bests than Dubois, is a better playoff performer, and actually gives a ****. Plus this return is much less than Dubois. I would much rather pony up a 1st and someone who doesn't want to be here for someone like Necas than sign a 30+ Y/O in free agency like Toffoli.

Bump Kreider or Trocheck down then. I don't think it's such a big deal. Obviously Laf "belongs" up there but he is talented enough to maybe spark Kakko and this wouldn't be 2022's kid line where he's chasing dump ins, he would have the puck on his stick with a chance to create. Also not envisioning typical 3rd line minutes, they'd be up there with the top 6 5on5 minutes wise. Look at Dallas with Johnston. If you can afford both Buch and Kane you shouldn't have to choose. Take some swings. This is the best realistic team I've seen created on this site.

Used AFV for all contract projections. Reading is hard I guess.
Would love to see how you handle 3 lineup spots with virtually nothing in cap and a bunch of bottom 6 level players in the system. No one is ever happy about giving the misfit toy a chance in the lineup until it works.

Spence won’t get that high of a pay raise probably somewhere around 1.5m
Beauvillier gets more than that probably around 2.5-3m and too much for Toffoli he will probably be somewhere around 4.5-5.25m.</div></div>
Toffoli is definitely getting around 6 and Beauvilier should be lucky to not have to take a PTO. Regardless it is literally in the description that I used AFV for this.
Kaliyev never got more than 12 and a half per game. Sprong would be in the top 6. I'd love to just keep Kaliyev and have him in that spot but his mind is made up.

I didn't go as deep into PTO's that they will likely be all over. But quality depth is something they can not afford at this time. They do have some NHL ready guys in Syracuse so not completely a 20 man roster.

Would the Habs do a 3rd and Heineman? Kakko's defense is good but they are cornered cap wise and can't keep putting north of 2 million towards him.

Eh. Kaliyev has a higher ceiling but would have a harder time playing in the bottom 6 than Tomasino. I don't think I'm willing to be decisive that one is better than the other at their current levels. I think NSH wants to send Tomasino for Kakko but NYR probably sends him to MTL.

That'd probably be best for NSH. Gonna be interesting to see where Tomasino, Kakko, and Kaliyev end up.

That's the only unrealistic part. He's gonna get another year but I have to disagree with that being the right move because if he puts up 65 next year it's considered a win and the buyout moves to 2/3 instead of 1/3 next year.
