PASS. DONT ACCEPT? This is a package id understand turning down after his rookie season but after three seasons of this, you say no? Lmao ok...
MTL would make possibly the worst move in NHL history if they did this...

Stars high on Petry by Chris Johnston
Not a fan of Mason Marchment. The guy finished the year with 3 goals in 30 games. The Habs have enough players that cant put the puck in the net. 4.5M AAV with 3 more years of term for that production. Unless Gallagher goes the other way. Big pass.

Knight seems like an obvious target as it seems Hughes came calling on Wolf and were turned down. Florida is desperate for any kind of defensive help with Montour and Ekblad gone long term. You'd think Florida wouldnt be on Julie Petry's no shopping list. Plenty of South Beach activities for all involved.
I dont see why they'd pay draft picks to take the bigger cap hit in Beauvilier tho with money this tight in Vancouver. Much rather go after a player like Foegele in Edmonton if they are dumping Evans and without paying anything extra.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Went_Wughes</b></div><div>Come training camp, every one way contract and waiver exempt guys have to go through waivers if cut to Laval, as Habs trim to 23 man roster.
There is very very little chance Armia gets claimed. But after the season begins, and if they call him up. He has to pass through re-entry waivers. At that time a team with injuries and cap space could claim him. Not guaranteed but a better possibility compared to training camp when most teams rosters are pretty set.</div></div>
There's no such thing as "re-entry" waivers anymore. It was removed in one of the recent CBA's.

(PIT/MTL/SJS) - Granlund, Rutta, Petry, DeSmith, Légaré, 2024 1st (PIT), 2025 2nd (PIT) for Pitlick, Hoffman for Karlsson, Hamaliuk, 2026 3rd (SJS)
My vote goes to Montreal here simply because it's the team that has no losses in this deal.
-Pitts get an aging defender that got one incredible year after not playing a full 82 game schedule for six years in a row for a small 10M$. I think this year was a fluke and PItts will regret the trade sooner than most think on this one when he once again suits up for 50 games and gets 40 points in 2023-24.
-SJ had no leverage here and I guess it was the only offer on the market but did they really go from 11.5M$ of Erik to 12.25 + 4 years of 1.5M retention for a single protected first round pick?! Only silver lining here is that the franchise saves 17M in real money and SJ sheds the one player that kept them from getting top two picks this past year and this coming one so they get a better pick with their own.
-Montreal sheds 2 NHL contracts that were a problem for them, get a retained guy to flip in Petry (Expected before puck drop) and DeSmith who I think had a down year but at 1.8M$ will likely gather interest from teams in a package with something else (Don't think they use a retention slot for him but if you're not looking to use it this year why not).

I like Petry. I still think there is value there. Montreal can trade him again if they want. If he stays healthy, he's valuable.

Either working with Price reveals the diamond in the rough or a piece of coal. Odds are he is what he's always been a decent backup. This season is his shot to tie it all together and carry the load. What you want of Elvis, is exactly what Allen is. Elvis is just a shinny, fresh more expensive version. Granted there is a slight chance he regains starter status. But with that price tag, I'd rather pay assets in a trade and gamble on Vejmelka with better odds and ceiling. Peace!</div></div>

I don’t think habs games are gonna be more physical cuz we are going to be last. But having a guy like Watson as the 14th attacker would be pretty good if there is another « Montembeault incident »

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Went_Wughes</b></div><div>Why not trade for the better goalie in Vejmelka?</div></div>
Sadly I don't think we're in a position to buy on a goalie. Why not capitalize on the cap space(once we figure out Hoff, Armia) and try to rebound a vet starting goalie? As I see it, changing the vet perspective right now could benefit both Monty and the younger guys. Elvis was a starter, while Allen was always a 1B. His contract would take us to Fowler coming in, and there's possibility to trade him at a higher price with retention.
As for Veggie, love the guy and he'd really fit the team(if he wants to stay) But I'm afraid of Arizona and other teams driving the price up on him. I could see trading for him, but in this scenario we give up virtually nothing for an underperforming goalie who thrived under good defense. If anyone can see or determine good defense from bad, it's Merzlikens.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mglgoalie33</b></div><div>I agree with the bad contract. It is, but it could pay off. High risk high reward. He's younger than Allen by three years, only $1.6M more than him for 4 seasons. With a higher possibility of a rebound and trade with retention it's a gamble, but could really work out. Him changing vet perspective and helping Monty as a starter could also work. Again, it's only speculation.
I'm sure Fowler also said he'd rather cook in College for 3 years, and that would put him into the AHL for only a year if Merzy is still here. Only thing I see is Dobes not getting time. I've been rooting for the kid since he was drafted, and love his aggressive style. But hey, creating more competition around the goalies could work out too.
In the end, I agree with everything but the Fowler being the starter by 2027. In my eyes, it'll just be as Elvis's contract runs out.

I’m kinda high on Fowler. For me it will be
23-24 : ncaa
24-25 : ncaa
25-26 : ncaa/backup for Monty at the end (like Levi)
26-27 : 50/50 with Monty

I'm laughing at the lack of love for this guy just because he's not flashy.
He's reliable and produce points at the NHL level on limited icetime. What more do you want?
He 100% part of this team's future and won't be put on waivers this year.
I see him as the new Lehkonen, with a better slapshot but a bit less grit along the boards.
As for the contract, he deserved more (if you compare him to RHP's new contract) but had no negociation power.
KH kept it a low and short term contract to avoid the need to put Price on LTIR before the start of the season and thus avoid bonuses penalties. See: https://fr.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4436071
With a steady pace, expect him to double his pay in 2024.
