1. In the event Calgary's own 2024 first (1st) round choice is selection 20-32 (inclusive) (following the determination of the 2024 NHL Draft lottery results), then Montreal shall have the option, exercisable until 48 hours prior to the start of the 2024 NHL draft, to exchange the conditional 2025 or 2026 first round choice to become Calgary's own 2024 first (1st) round choice); or,

the oldest was Gordie Howe, in the 68-69 season 40yo. (5 total were 35+, including Howe and Joe Sakic (37))

I'm talking within context to players who have been traded to a new team. Stamkos has never been traded.. and Sakic has only played for one franchise.

Right, 4-5 years ago would be in the past.. and his contract starts when he's 30.. not his prime anymore. He put up a career year in points last season and starting on a new team that's not built offensively like the Panthers. Repeating another 100 point season is very unlikely and by most models he's going to regress. The question that remains is how much will he regress.

Every contract gets worse near the end, u make that deal so u keep the player in their good years to trade for some bad years later when the flames are likely out of contention anyway. It convinces Weegar to resign as well. Yes, the contract is not ideal value and term wise, (still decent and likely what he would’ve gotten on the open market anyway), but in the grand scheme of things, it’s good for Calgary

Good from Huby's perspective that he signed cause he wouldn't be getting that contract going into the season and running a risk of getting injured. But at the same time how many 30 year old puts up 100 points/season has there been in the NHL? I still see him being productive but not at the levels he did the last 4 or 5 seasons ago.

I was talking about his body of work over the last 4-5 years.. It'd be silly to call last (single) year as 'prime years'.
He's ranked 4th in points production over a 4 year span.

Huby's prime years are gone, Flames are paying for reputation and past production. If he doesn't continue his 100 pt/season for the upcoming season the fans aren't going to be happy with that kind of contract. It'll be good for 3-4 years and then mediocre to bad for the rest. There's ebbs and flows to the contract so I won't say where the contract will look good. Could be in year 2 or 3, but by the end of the contract it'll look horrible and project to be LTIR bound.

According to PuckPedia we are over the upper limit for now and still need to sign Yams, McLeod, and Benson.

This signing also reduces the off-season cap space (Cap of 82.5M + 10%), as for off-season cap calculation purposes, Puljujarvi's $1.175M Qualifying Offer is now replaced with his $3M actual contract.https://t.co/HbTOfCKPtN
— PuckPedia (@PuckPedia) July 26, 2022

What Is Barrie Actually Worth
Once Bouchard rounds out his game and understands what his strengths and weaknesses are, it's safe to move on from Barrie. Barrie is currently on the team as a cushion to Bouchard and it's redundant to have both on the team. I don't believe there's a pressing need to move Barrie as the Oilers can use his scoring from the back end and he can slot accordingly to the defensive pairing when injuries arise. If he does get moved, I like to see a shutdown D as the return with less cap hit. As long as it makes sense from the Oilers perspective.

Jesse Puljujarvi
I think the biggest knock on him was his finishing and his hockey IQ. Those knocks have been following him ever since his breakout at WJC. He's big, decent skater, creates a lot of chances, and positionally sound. At times, he has skating (balancing or coordination) issues that has him falling awkwardly on the ice. Some fans are still disappointed that he didn't turn out better for someone who was picked #4 overall in the 2016 draft.
The issue now is whether the Oilers are willing to accept the amount JP will be awarded via arbitration or they have to trade him because it'll be too much that they can't afford his cap hit. We won't know what the amount will be until it's all finalized.
I don't see any issues with JP's on-ice performance (he could get on the scoresheet a little more), it's the off ice stuff that could affect the team. The only other Fin on the team is Niemelainen and he's not a regular on the roster. Hopefully he's able to pick up on the language and feel more comfortable to his surrounding.
I'd prefer the Oilers keep him for another year to see if he continues to improve on finishing and balancing. Oilers RW is thin after Yamo and Yamo isn't exactly impactful on his own either. But he's a different topic of discussion.

The top 6 and G are good but the bottom 6 and D are still not quite as good for a contending team. Their forward RWs are one of the worst when compared to cup contending teams.
