Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marked_Difference</b></div><div>Detroit is VERY likely to be in the playoffs. What about Dumba 50% retained and someone like O'Brian as a depth forward for the 24 1st.
A late first for the defensemen that Detroit really needs and a tough as nails O'B to soak up bullets in the playoffs as a depth insert guy.</div></div>
The whole reason Detroit and Berggren are supposedly having problems is because of how clogged they are at forward.
Don't really need any more depth forwards.

Ideal Deadline
I like that the whole reported issue between Detroit and Berggren is over Detroit not being able to make roster space for Berggren... And yet 90% of the trade proposals for Berggren are to add even more forwards we don't have room for. :tearsofjoy

How in the world did the Hawks screw him over?!?!?! They paid him WELL more than market and he goes and drunkenly harassed an employee.

(ANA/PHI) - Drysdale, 2025 2nd (ANA) for Gauthier
This is going to be a trade you have to revisit in 5 years to see how it shook out. Gauthier's a solid prospect and Drysdale had a rough couple years but could still be a good top 2 defenseman.
Flyers "win" right now because they got tangible returns on someone who wasn't going to play for them.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed William Nylander (8 Years / $11,500,000 AAV)
In a vacuum, this is a good deal just based on what Nylander brings to the table. He is worth the money and should continue to be through most of the contract. The last few years won't be as bad with the higher cap as well.
The problem is the structure of this team. I just don't think you can give 4 players 50% of the money and ice a complete roster. I have the feeling the Delta between JT+Marner now compared to JT+Marner with their upcoming extensions won't be much, if anything. JT will see his pay come down, I honestly don't know what a 'fair' number will look like, and Marner will go up. Probably something around 13-14 million/year. So even if JT takes 6-8 million on the next deal, the core four will still cost around 50% of the cap.

(ANA/BUF) - 2025 4th (MIN) for Lyubushkin
Like this deal Buffalo gets ride of some cap and a defenseman which they lots of and Anaheim improves their defence for this year until they flip him at the deadline for a better pick then the 4th
Also R.I.P RJ we all loved you so so much and will be forever missed

(PIT/MTL/SJS) - Granlund, Rutta, Petry, DeSmith, Légaré, 2024 1st (PIT), 2025 2nd (PIT) for Pitlick, Hoffman for Karlsson, Hamaliuk, 2026 3rd (SJS)
Steve Dangle compared this trade to a dam finally bursting. I'd say its more like the GMs finally unclogged the turd from the toilet. This deal was all about moving around bad contracts in ways that made sense for each team, but the contracts remain bad.
On a slightly less stinky note, I remember when SJ signed Karlsson to his contract, I felt like that would end terribly for them. This isn't the return they would have wanted today, but the end of the contract in SJ will actually be a Norris season.

What I would do
From what I have seen online the best Sens could do is Berggen and Bostons 2024 1st. The hold-up is that Debrincat won't agree to the contract that Wings want to give him.
His original ask was 8 x $9M which no one is doing right now, I saw a couple of mentions the Wing's offer to him is 5 x $7M and Debrincat has refused to sign that blocking a deal that would have been done at noon EST when Zadina cleared waivers.
I understand he has a newborn and wants to make the most he can for his family but it just isn't there for him right now with the cap situation, he has to come down on his asking price.

Agreed.
Good for CHI because
1) They need to hit the cap floor
2) Good leadership for the new guys
3) Someone established for the fans to cheer for as Kane and Toews are gone.
