Pieterangelo Nylander and dumping Turris
Not so quick calculation
Cost per point: How much you pay a player per point:
e.g. Rocco Grimalidi has had a cap hit of 1’000’000 and scored 31 points. Accordingly his pay per point is 1’000’000/31 =32’256
The measure is obviously flawed as it does not take defensive play, physical play, influence on the game, etc. into account. But i think the general assumption is: "the more points, the better the player". On top the measure is a bit skewed by games played so we can adjust the costs by games played. For the sake of understanding and keeping the math simple, in the following example the costs are not adjusted by games (Turris would be a bit better with the adjustment).
The following data is from capfriendly:
Grimaldi is 51st on the list of cost per point in the NHL. Obviously the entry-level dudes (Petersson, Barzal, etc.) are well ahead of him. Rocco is 13th if we filter out entry level deals
Turris with his 6’000’000/31 = 193’548 per point is 510th on the list. We can calculate how many players per team have a better cost effectiveness – you get 510/31 = 16.45 players per team are cheaper per point than Turris. Pretty bad when there are 12 forwards and 18 player per team play per game…
Anyway retaining 2’000’000 on the deal, Turris would be at 4’000’000/31 = 129’032 per point. This would be on the place 370 – same as Namestnikov. Now the interesting part: You ask who is around that range?
364 Aho
365 Eichel
366 W. Karlsson
367 Malkin
368 Stamkos
369 McDavid
370 Namestnikov, Turris @4’000’000
371 Palat
372 Highmore
373 Sanheim
374 Schmaltz
375 Sheary
376 Boeser
377 Nyqvist
Pretty good cost effectiveness. If you think Turris plays a bit better, you actually should trade for him as another team.

I proposed a Turris at $1.5m retained + 2020 2nd for Colin Miller -- and BUF fans seemed in agreement that they would accept that deal.</div></div>
Good point, then probably try to steal one of Torontos forwards with Ekholm.
One of the Sabres D woumd be a good option, though id rather have an LD for the short term, one might not choose the return on Turris.

Yeah did not think about that their 2nd is basically a 1st. Trade value is probably more late 2nd -3rd round pick with retained salary
A proven (in their organization) Center with 40-50 point potential @ 4.8m see what Pageau, Trocheck, Athanasiou got (though less term on lower cap hit)
Maybe it is more in the ballpark of Eakins

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>If NSH gets Laf, then I don't want to give that much money and term to Hall -- I'd be happy to pick up a guy like Hoffman for less term and AAV. Or even try Jarnkrok or Tolvanen in that spot and keep the cap space. Maybe even a D trade for a top 6 RW (Marner/Nylander/etc.)</div></div>
I see that point, i think Hofmann could get 6m as well, regarding term, Hofmann is 2y older than Hall, so a shorter contract gets them to similar age. i am not sure Tolvanen or Jarnkrok can fill out that spot, but maybe it is not necessary.
In terms of trading a D - which one would you trade? It destabilizes the Preds D even further. If they trade Ellis maybe a more defensive responsible D to pair Josi with is required. If you trade Ekholm, you need another Ekholm to fill that gap. Unfortunately a prospect wont be enough for Nylander (though they might want to shake up their roster).
Appreciate your input!

With so many changes I thought "at least give them stability of the 1 proven line"
But Forsberg to RW could be an option as well :)

Josi and Subban never play with each other, Grandlund is a Winger and Tolvanen is in the AHL (and not ready)
Though with Laviolettes line roulette (haha it rhymes) you could be right.

What would you want for Hayes as a rental / with an agreed extension?
How possible is it that Hayes will stay in New York after signing a 1 year deal who brings him directly to UFA (if I rembember this correctly)
I see him as an interesting top 6 option although I am a bit worried that he has a high contract year and wont live up to a new contract

Minnesota Wild signed Jason Zucker (5 Years / $5,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>loganreid</b></div><div>Dude just does not have the history to support this beyond this past season. If he continues that kind of production it's an amazing deal, otherwise overpaid. Should've gone with a bridge deal. 4.5M for 2 years makes more sense plus gets him to UFA territory and a potentially even better contract if he excels. Seems like a player who doesn't have faith in himself to succeed. I get that it's great job security he has now but if he continued his production for another season or two he could easily be making 6.5M-7M per year. Especially if the cap continues to rise.</div></div>
Dude is 26 years old with 3 NHL seasons played. The contract takes him to 31 year old, which is where you get a retirement contract for 6 year at an absurd aav (see Ladd, Eriksson, etc.). If he keeps up his pace he gets paid another time, but if not he can live happily without stress.

Third time's the charm?
I really don´t think they go after Franson. I would rather give Carrier or Fabbro a shot at the 3rd pairing right D slot. Weber is ok though.
Could see Emelin getting more term on the open market.
Sissons definitely plays over Salomaki. Jarnkrok to wing and Sissons centers the 4th line.
If you sign Saros to that deal he will be a UFA. This is bad -> 3 year bridge deal
These are all details, i think you did good. I don't see any major changes c´coming for the Preds.

Sure the Preds would have problems with the cap, but could trade Smith or Bonino each frees up 4m
Rinnes and Ellis contract are up at the same time and Rinne probably doesnt get another 7m per contract

With this trade Nashville's cup window only gets smaller and the cap flexibility will also be gone.
Nashville would rather keep Smith and stay away from Helm. And there is no real desire for Green.
They should keep Fabbro.
Though i could see a trade: Aberg + first for Nyqvist
