I'd rather the Stars pay another team with a draft pick to take on Khudobin (who is a damn good backup) if that's what it took, than take on Gardiner's contract.

Was the OP changed or are you confusing Bishop and Khudobin?

I disagree with your assessment of Marner's ability to fit what the Stars have, but Dallas would need to decline just on the basis of cap hit for bodies. Heiskanen is gonna be getting a new contract, Robertson will need a pay day too if he continues, and Klingberg needing signed again too kills it.
It makes me sad though since Marner is my favorite player not named Heiskanen, lol.

Some retooling
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheMooterus</b></div><div>Not a fan of the Jones deal. Do I want Jones in Dallas? Yes, but I have a hard time essentially parting with two 1st Round Picks for a guy that they will either: A) likely lose next offseason, or B) force Klingberg out because we can't pay him as well as Jones.
If the cap were consistently going up year after year, I would be much more inclined to pull the trigger, but I would honestly rather keep Dellandrea, our 1st, & know that Dallas can sign Klingberg next offseason.</div></div>
Agreed.
I mean, I couldn't care any less about Dellandrea (I'm not that high on him), but if anything close to this were to happen, Lindell and his cap would definitely need to be going the other way to even make it a possibility.

leafs next season
GIven that Oleksiak and Heiskanen made a good pair in the playoffs, Johns looks poised to retire, and there's no real additional depth on the blueline, the Stars won't move Oleksiak for something like this.
Kerfoot just gives us another forward while leaving a gaping hole in our Top 4. Johns not being in the picture going forward is what screws this deal, otherwise I don't think it's terrible value.

Stars aren't taking on Kerfoot's contract, let alone doing that AND retaining any on Dickinson's.

He basically takes over Nichushkin's old contract spot, but will easily provide more production. No risk move even if he doesn't do any better than he did last season.

Heiskanen isn't being traded, especially not adding a 1st to the trade. I see Tavares being signed too, so this is obviously a pipe dream.

While I agree trading Bishop for a 7th is dumb, your comment about the backup being "way worse" is nonsense. Their stat lines are nearly identical, Bishop has just played in more games. However, neither Bishop nor Lehtonen should be the starter on a team that is looking to be a contender. Neither is consistent enough to shoulder that.

Problem with that is Lehtonen's numbers are comparable to Bishop's this season, so if Bishop went down, we'd be in better shape to have Lehtonen in net over Pavelec who I do not trust at all, lol.

So we trade a good young defenseman and our backup goaltender, leaving us with no competent backup for Bishop for a rental in Nash? That would never happen. Maybe if the Stars had a decent backup it would be more likely.

Sell, Sell! Sell
You know the salary cap is a thing, right? The Stars don't have the cap space to afford Nash's contract, and given Nill's usual trades and just using logic in general, there is no way the Stars give up their 1st round pick for a rental. I do like the fact that you seem to at least understand the Stars need a winger, as most of these proposals have people trying to trade Holden to the Stars when we don't need defensemen.
I also think you need to have more coming from New York if they're getting Nylander.

If Stars agreed to anything, it'd be Zuccarello. We need another top 6 winger, not yet another defenseman. Also not moving Heiskanen.

That's wrong. LeBrun debunked the rumor of not being able to be traded back to original teams. The Jan 1st date is for players traded prior to the expansion draft, not those involved with the draft. It's basically to prevent teams from passing players to teams with open protection spots and trading them back to avoid losing them in the expansion draft.

Martinez to Dallas...Thoughts
If the Stars are moving the 3rd overall in a deal with the Kings, Muzzin would have to be coming back because we need someone more defensively responsible than Martinez because Klingberg needs someone to cover his lapses. We aren't in any cap crunch, so it would make no sense to trade for Martinez just to get rid of Lehtonen's contract when he will be a solid back up and Niemi will be bought out.

Dallas Fan's Is This Fair? (Another Tanev Trade)
I give it 2 stars because it wasn't just the 3rd for Tanev, which seems to be the general thought of many Canucks fans, but I don't see a premium being paid by the Stars to rid themselves of Niemi's contract when a buyout is a simple solution that saves assets. Nill also doesn't like trading picks, he generally will try to collect more picks in trades rather than give them away.

How overrated is Brendan Smith?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rangersandislesfan</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JCWM2</b></div><div>
He's gonna make 3-3.5 Million or more on the UFA market. Not every defenseman is a stellar puck mover, but he's one of the best defensive defenseman in the league and just needs to be paired with someone who is more offensive minded so he can focus on covering their defensive lapses. I'd be happy for the Stars to pick him up since we already have defensemen in Klingberg and Honka who are great at moving the puck.</div></div>
Maybe Smith would be good with someone who can help if someone makes a mistake. Maybe they should have tried Smith and McDonagh as the top pair, as McDonagh could help out when Smith loses the puck.</div></div>
Smith would likely be good with him, but I'm not sure I'd want him out there as much as McDonagh is. I'm not sure of the minutes spread between the d-pairs in NY, but I'd want Smith on my 2nd pairing unless the team does and even distribution of ice time for all 3 pairs throughout each game. Smith's game goes under the radar a bit because he plays a defensive role instead of the more common 2-way or offensive minded styles that are prevalent these days.

Should Vegas make many expansion trades?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rangersandislesfan</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JCWM2</b></div><div>I'm gonna guess 6-10. If Vegas can have teams provide them with picks, even in the later rounds, to draft certain players, they will gain assets for their team that will be necessary to build moving forward. They can also focus on drafting younger guys with potential who are left unprotected and then flip them for assets if their roster is already rounded out enough. If I were the GM of Vegas, I'd be trying to stockpile as many assets in prospects, picks, etc. that I possibly could, regardless of their value just to fill the system.</div></div>
I think i'd consider it but believe it or not, i don't know if i'd make any. I'd already have draft picks, and i'd want an okay team instead of some horrible team that takes so long to be good. Just my opinion though. And i might make a few, but not many if any at all.</div></div>
Depending on who is left exposed in the expansion, they can have a competitive team AND gain additional assets. 6-10 moves isn't a lot in a league of 31 teams, especially when those moves can be a combination of taking incentives to draft certain players, or flipping drafted players to other teams for assets after the draft. McPhee doesn't have much pressure to be good immediately, so the focus should be on building a decently competitive team for this upcoming season, but also making sure to have lots of younger players with potential and draft picks to get talent in quickly or have assets for future trades.

Playoffs next year?
It's hard to say what will happen because we don't know how HItchcock will coach the team. He's indicated that things may be different than to be expected from him because he's picked up ideas along the way the past few months. I'd say that if the Stars can manage to add another defenseman or two, either who can move the puck or provide strong defensive play to help balance the offensive talent of Klingberg and Honka, they could make the playoffs again and have a solid season. I think Bishop will do well and Lehtonen will be good as a backup, but everything hinges on how the offseason goes.
It's still too early to tell.
