<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks33</b></div><div>Assuming full health Stone takes that last spot at 2RW. I think its interesting that Mantha would be in over Howden or Roy given that those other guys are more suited to the bottom 6, have established chemistry and Mantha's history as an inconsistent player. I've been a big Dorofeyev fan from his draft days but I don't see how Cassidy plays a 23 year old over the other guys.
The amount of players this team has is ludicrous.</div></div>
Will be interesting to see what Cassidy does. I'd like to think the top 6 guys and the 4th line will all be in the lineup assuming they're all healthy no matter what. The only question mark to me is who will be Karlsson's wingers and all of Mantha, Amadio, Howden, and Dorofeyev (Dorofeyev least likely) will be considered and could be deployed pending their form and the matchup.
Although his usage in the playoffs might not be that high Dorofeyev has a great chance to be a quality middle 6 contributor for a long time and I'm really hopeful that GM's lack of offer sheeting will continue because cap should be tight and if someone did want to they could really handcuff the Knights on Doro

Stephenson on the 4th line? Roy and Howden scratched and Dorofeyev in?</div></div>
As far as who plays on D is concerned, Hanifin-Pietrangelo and McNabb-Theodore are locked in as the top 2 pairs and I could see any of Martinez, Hague, Whitecloud, and Hutton utilized for the third pair.
Forward lines are a mess after the first line. Stephenson probably draws second line with whoever they want between him and Hertl playing center. Third line being Mantha-Karlsson-Amadio and fourth being Carrier-Roy-Kolesar. This all of course assumes full health

Likewise. Whole AGM is a yuck. Korczak loses waiver exemption next year so they're not going to be particularly keen on losing him for free to Chicago or San Jose to sign.... Mike Reilly?

They got a third for Nate Schmidt with the same term and more than double the cap hit. Acting like his deal is bad and they'll have to beg someone to take him for free is hilarious

Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rosenj</b></div><div>Vegas gave Pacioretty away for future considerations. It's less about worth and more about other teams knowing that Vegas needs to do these deals to make room for the players they actually want to sign, so they don't have a ton of leverage. I'm not saying this exact trade would be the one to go through, maybe a third wouldn't need to be added (although ~4 million is quite a bit of cap to dump for free), and maybe it wouldn't be with the Preds, it's more about the idea of dumping those players to make room for signing Hanifin, Marchessault, and Stephenson.</div></div>
Pacioretty is a lazy comparison. Guy on the wrong side of 30 with a 7M cap hit coming off a season that he missed more than half the games because of injury is not the same as a 27 year old at 3M for 3 more years having a career year. He could take Stephenson's place in the lineup today and it would be hardly noticeable, there's no reason to prioritize him over Roy especially when the Hertl trade was effectively choosing Hertl over Stephenson long term. Saying that Vegas has a history of dumping guys out for new ones is not wrong, but there's no cap dump comparable to Roy to suggest he's close to being the next one.

Only team that Hanifin can sign an 8 year deal with now is Vegas - you have to be on the roster at the deadline to be eligible for that, so trading for rights won't really do anything here.</div></div>
Columbus did it last year to get the 8th year on Severson from Jersey, so it's doable. It did, however, cost the Jackets a 3rd to get the 8th year signed off on by the Devils and would be unlikely to be less in this instance

VGK TRADE
As fun as the idea of adding Chychrun to the group next year is (I explored it myself briefly), Vegas' cap next year in all likelihood can't afford to have Thompson not be apart of it, and therefore probably kills any chance of it happening

Post-Cup Crunch
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruinsWoahWoah</b></div><div>I would imagine Marchessault would be about the same price as the $4M that is allocated to Stephenson here. IMO Vegas would essentially have to decide to move on from both Stepheson and Marchessault to re-sign Hanifin. I don't think the $1.9M of moving Howden is really going to move the needle - would probably be a cap saving of just about $1M to replace with a minimum contract and there would be a real lack of depth at the F position (see: Kolesar as 2RW).
Maybe Roy gets moved?</div></div>
Roy should be last on the list to move he's excellent. Lots of corners will need to be cut in the offseason. Start with not giving Dorofeyev close to 2M for ~70 games of NHL duty. Howden 1.9M might not move the needle too much but the list of people to move should still start with him he's replaceable. Decent chance you have to move one of McNabb, Hague, Whitecloud, or Korczak. Definitely choose Marchessault over Stephenson if given the reasonable option. Unless they're truly committed to being the mercenary team, <em>someone</em> needs to be given the chance at a VGK retirement and Marchessault is the best candidate assuming his ask isn't outrageous. Will need to be nickel and dimeing going on that won't be easy and might get uncomfortable but they'll figure it out somehow I'm sure.

#1 candidate for me to be purged as needed is Howden. Then there's the question at D where I could see any of McNabb, Hague, Whitecloud, or Korczak moved out. I anticipate there will be at least one departure that is uncomfortable for fans to come to terms with.

The play of late has been quite concerning. I still lean towards them making it in because I don't think anyone beneath them in the standings inspires enough threat for their spot in the standings, but I wouldn't count my chickens until they hatch because the play has been brutal at times.

Does it make a Hanafin extension impossible? And doesn't this all but send either Marchessault or Stephenson packing due to the cap?
I think VGK soundly wins the trade with those 3rds going back, but why does Vegas make this move from a strategy standpoint? Are they going to try and flip him in a year or something?</div></div>
100% signals the end for one of the two, likely Stephenson and will make retaining Marchessault difficult. Shouldn't affect Hanifin deal. Center was not a position of concern but they like being strong down the middle and this only reinforces that.
