<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>So what I gather from this is that if we sign nylander at 7.5m for 8 years a trade for Rantanen straight up must be too good of a deal to pass up right? Save you 600k on the first 5 years and 2-4m on the last 3 years. Since nylander is just as good as Rantanen and you were willing to sheet him for 5 years. I somehow doubt your fan base would accept this trade. Probably about as well as rantanen’s agent would accept this contract you’re trying to ram down his throat.

There is a reason sheets don’t happen. The management of every NHL team has a vested interest in what Toronto does with nylander. They like that Toronto isn’t caving and offering more than he’s worth. Keeps comparables low. If you give rfa’s the upper hand of being sheeted all the time teams will be hasty to get deals done. Which will lead to bloated contracts which then leads to teams not being able to sign their own players coming off of elc’s.

If nylander were looking for 6-7m long term and the leafs were trying to low ball him in term or money, than an offersheet might be realistic.</div></div>

On nylander offer sheet the max deal for a 1st 2nd and 3rd is 8.1aav for 5 years. Anymore it's 4 1sts or something like that. I think anywhere between 6 to 7 maybe 7.5 Toronto matches. But 8.1, IMO will make them seriously think. Marner and matthews will be close to 20m combind. 8.1 is high, but its "free agency" in a sense. And you constricted by length. But also your taking a great piece away from a competitor for cheap.
