I don't think there's anybody who will be available at 5 that the Sens *really* want that Montreal wouldn't want just as much tbh

Stinky Stank for Guhle Straight Up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>Yeah not very well... his pairing with Matheson was outscored 22 to 16 at 5v5 together and expected goals were tilted too.
Meanwhile Matheson - Barron or Guhle - Barron outscored opponents 19 - 16 together. A difference of 9 goals on the season which is a few wins for MTL.
It's statistically proven that LHD + RHD pairings perform better in general than same handed pairings.</div></div>
I want STINKY STANK!

because we're rich on LD, and so are Stars, their top 4 LD is set with Harley and Heiskanen, they'd want a RD for sure

I think the Sens will just take Parekh or Iginla at 7.
We need every pick possible to restock our pipeline

On the reserve list theres simashev obviously as a LD but beyond that its pretty thin.</div></div>
We still have Chabot.
Sanderson - Parekh
Chabot - Zub
Kleven - Vet

As deep as they are of young Dmen. The thought of MTL having a D core of:
Guhle - Levshunov
Hutson - Reinbacher
Xhekaj - Mailloux
Struble - Engstrom
That's some cool crazy $h!t right there lol

Only scenario I see MTL trading down is if they view Demidov and Lindstrom in a category above the other group of forwards and both are gone by 5th overall. Only then would trading down make sense. Add another asset fo another move, and select one of Iginla, Catton, Eiserman, Sennecke, etc.
If Habs view, let's say, Iginla in the same group as Lindstrom, they probably just use the pick on Iginla if Lindstrom is gone instead of risking moving down and still not getting him.

RW dump for RHD dump
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JIG19146</b></div><div>This appears to just be a trade for the sake of making a trade, and it does not move the needle for either team. From the Flyers perspective, I bet they think they can extract more value out of a Ristolainen trade than an Anderson trade. RHD has way more positional value than winger and Ristolainen is a better player than Anderson right now. The market for his skill set is much bigger. Ristolainen (with 33% retention) can be moved at the deadline for an actual asset, cap relief or both. Can't say the same for Anderson.</div></div>
This indeed, we also have more than enough wingers already and would rather get rid of some than add 1 more, unless we'd be talking about clear cut Top 6 LW.

Savard will be gone by TD anyway.</div></div>
No rushing them and blocking 1/3 of roster spots for the next 3 years is two very different things.
MTL has no big wingers prospects and soo much Dmen. This deal just makes it worse.

I see why Philly would do this, since they have young Defense that can be brought up, but this is the same reason why Montreal wouldn't do this. Montreal declines.
Ristolainen is blocking the path of young D.

Dubois Trade Instead of Buyout
I doubt Robitaille and Blake are going to admit failure after one year of Dubois, as NHL execs have alot of pride (even it hurts them). However, if ownership thinks Dubois is a bust then Blake is fired before his 1pm Monday press conference.

Draft 2024 We have a trade
I would accept that offer as the Kings GM, but I don't think that Rob Blake is in a position to admit his mistake.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>Neither team does this.
LA would be in a WORSE cap situation short term with Anderson and Dvorak than just keeping Dubois and MTL would he taking on significant long term risk taking Dubois at his full term cap hit.
LA could just buyout Dubois and it would be a better deal, and MTL could then sign him to a lesser AAV or short term and that would also be a better deal for them... this offer makes no sense.</div></div>
We would buy Anderson out immediately, and Dvorak has only one season left on his contract.

Getting tougher to play against
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>Per Puckpedia, buyouts can't start until the later of June 15th or 48 hours after the cup final (which could go as late as June 24th this year). LA is able to buyout Dubois any time they want to after that, the only wrinkle is that Dubois' birthday is on June 24th and once he turns 26 years old the buyout is 2/3 instead of 1/3.
It has nothing to do with the buyout window, more about Dubois' birthday.</div></div>
Ok that makes sense, was just a bit confused, thanks for the clarification

Getting tougher to play against
Why?
Newhook is 3x cheaper and his next contract will also be cheaper than Dubois's. He was on pace for a 50pts season and is likely to progress a little.
Dvorak is gone in 11 months. We need to be careful with that space since Guhle and Slafkovksky will proably command significant pay jumps and we are stock with 13M deadwood with Gallagher and Anderson.
As for being "tougher" to play against, what part of Dubois's game fit that description since his time with colombus. He showed lazyness and poor comittment in huge stretches of games both in LA and WPG.
If we manage to have some flexibility in the next 2-3 years, I would target so many other players than him. Thats all without saying that even if he bounce back, I dont think this guy can handle the "being a star quebecer player in Montréal" type of pressure.
Its easy for guys like Danault, RHP, Monty because they are cheap, work hard and didnt or dont have hughe expectations. Its much more complicated when youre an offensive player with the obligation of putting up points every night.
