Could potentially make it the Ottawa 3rd the Rangers got in the proposed Trouba deal.

Cutting Dead Weight

From which perspective?
I actually posted a similar proposal in a recent ACGM: which included the Rangers sending their 1st Rounder, too.
Hawks fans chimed in, and stated they would accept the deal WITHOUT the 1st. Not only would they be pleased to give Kakko a shot, but they could move Trouba with retention to get even more Draft capital (possibly Connor Murphy, too).

Good to know. I added the 1st, given the proposal involved taking on the entire Cap amount without retention.
But if Kakko and Robertson (and whatever Trouba still has in the tank) are enough to satisfy the Hawks, then that works for me.
Use that 1st to satisfy other needs.

Insanity again
The Rangers lost to Florida for being a finesse team that got muscled around by a more physical squad.
The answer to that? Let's get Zegras. Another finesse player to get muscled around AND has no idea how to defend.
That'll work nicely.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PurpleHippo</b></div><div>Are you suggesting a Kane for Kakko swap with EDM? What would the trade look like?</div></div>
The Rangers would have to package something with Kakko. Not their 1st, but maybe their 4th and a Prospect like Robertson. If Edmonton doesn't retain any salary, I would think that's in the ballpark.

Where to?
What would be brought back to even out the money from his Cap hit (since there is no way Drury would retain $ for 6 years)?
And what incentives would you give him to waive his NMC?

But with 6 years left on his Contract, it remains a harsh reality.

24-25 Without Chytil

It depends on what level of "sweetener" would need to be added to move him. If they could dump him for a bag of pucks, or just have to add a mid Round Pick, then go for it.
But if it costs premium assets in order to get rid of him, than the Buyout becomes the better option.

Lets discuss
I don't think Drury did bad, overall. Definitely banking on Roslovic turning into Vatrano 2.0.
Got decent pieces without giving up decent assets. Savvy.
I think most of the irritation comes from seeing the huge moves made by Florida and Carolina in the East, and then Vegas and Colorado out West.
None of that you could blame Drury for. Just the feeling of dread that these moves might not be enough to compete with those Big Dogs.

The less, the better. Was trying to account for what a 4 year deal would look like with rising Cap #'s.
Had him initially at an even $5M. Went over a bit just to see what fits.
If they could get an AAV of $4.5M over 4, I think I'd be happy with that.

Help me out with prices
Eberle and retention for a 2025 1st (maybe a 4th, too)
Buchnevich can supposedly be had for 2 First Rounders. Would rather give up those late 1st's and keep someone like Othmann.
Feel like Tuch's price will be insane with 2 more years of control remaining.
Vatrano should cost 2024 1st, a 4th and one of Sykora or Berard.

Everyone is worth a 1st this year, apparently. Value isn't that far off. If anything, adding the B Prospect should be enough with the 2nd.

Imo same for Vatrano. He just getting opportunity, he always has shot the puck alot.
Still not a 1st round trade equivalent.</div></div>
That only applies to someone while they're on 1 particular Contract. Tarasenko can be acquired with retention, because this 1 year deal he's on is a different Contract than the last one they had initially acquired him on with retention.
If you don't like Henrique or Vatrano, that's fine. But in a Sellers Market, with both needing retention, and the one with an extra year of control, these are the price tags.
Not saying they should absolutely do it. But you're not getting them for a middle Round Pick each.

Not saying the Rangers will absolutely do both of these deals. May instead look to Tarasenko, Wennberg, Novak or others outside of this package.
But common sense would show that these are the appropriate values for each of these individual players, especially with 1 having an extra year of control. With retention on both.

You've offered a 1st+3rd of value. That's the standard ask for Toffoli retained.

Still don't think it would drive the price up that much. But at the very least, his presence on the market could positively affect the prices of Tarasenko, Eberle, Novak etc

Fair enough. Rangers could just pivot towards Tarasenko. Or another package deal of Eberle and Wennberg.
