Who is on first

I half expect the Habs D to be comprised of all of Guhle, Hudson, Matheson, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Xhekaj and Savard in the next 2 years. I hate to say it but right now it looks like Engstrom, Harris and Barron are on the outside looking in.</div></div>
I agree. Engstrom will most likely replace Savard in 25-26. Xhekaj will then be seventh D. I would not be surprised to see one or both Barron and Harris traded by this years trade deadline.

If it were up to me, I’d stick Slaf on whichever line Monahan will be on, and keep them together. The thing I didn’t like with what Habs did with Slaf last season is that he never had consistent linemates and bounced around the lineup.</div></div>
Slaf needs to find a home on the first or second line. Otherwise in the eyes of many Canadian fans he will be considered a bust. He is still very young but he has to show that he wants it this year. I for one am a fan and looking forward to see him play.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Reinbacher has been playing pro hockey for 2 years albeit in Europe but still pro hockey, he is ready for more competition. I don't mind sending him to Laval but does he really need much more development? He dominated the NL last season at 18 playing against the leagues best lines, sure more ice time would be beneficial to build up his stamina but the one major reason for him not being NHL ready is like most prospects just drafted he needs to put on more muscle. No matter where he plays he will build it, so why send him anywhere if he isn't going to benefit from it? If he is ready, then keep him, if there are questions about his game then definitely send him to Laval or Klotin.</div></div>
I expect he will stay in Klotin 1 more year. This year will be focused on Mailloux. The other young D also need to mature a bit. Next year will be the big year when both Hudson and Reinbacher come up. Now this leaves Engstrom when will he join the big club.
Who will be traded to make room for these guys?
Who will they be paired with in their first year? I am expecting mailloux and Reinbacher will be paired with Matheson. I am expecting Hudson to be paired with Savard.

My only concern with Newhook on the first line would be size.

I agree. I expect to see Barron, Harris and Savard traded later this year or next.

How can the Habs surprise
Barron - I agree, he will play on Montreal’s first D line this year along side Matheson or Guhle. I expect Mailloux to slot in sooner rather than later on the Second line pushing Harris out to seventh defenseman.
Question is where will Barron play once Reinbacker joins in 24-25? IMO, he will be on the third line or traded.
Slaf - I am hoping to see him on the 2nd line with Newhook and Dach.
Armia - love the guy but I expect to see Yolenen on the 4th line this year.

Going with youth
One more season for Savard on right D. Expect Reinbacher on second D line in 24-25. Mailloux will then be on the first pairing with Ghule. Barron dropped to third line.
Hudson will also join him as well, may push Xhekaj to 7th defenceman. Due to his size he may only play select games in his first year.

Big Swing take 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WPGSK</b></div><div>The entire offer gets PLD or Helly. Not both.
PLD is giving the Jets 5 or 6 teams to negotiate with, so they will receive more.
Helly is by far the best goalie that's been available for many years. He's working with the JETS to find a team that he wants to go to and sign long term with, thus increasing the assets they will receive in return.</div></div>
Made a few adjustments based on the feedback.

NO!</div></div>
Yes, I agree this may be a bit low for Winnipeg. But in my defence I feel the Winnipeg Jets are being held over a barrel with both Dubois and Hellebuyck indicating they will not resign.
With the LA Kings now showing interest, Montreal may need to add 2024 1st, and another hopeful to help with Winnipeg’s “retooling”.
